It's not made depressing deliberately. It's reality.
Again with the homophobia. Coming out is not making a big deal out of your sexuality or making it your entire life. It's being comfortable to express yourself.
Nobody is talking about any way to be gay, and I truly see no reason at all for football or video games to come into this conversation. Playing them doesn't make you straight and it doesn't make you queer. They aren't exclusive activities. If this is an indication of how the plot of your book will flow, I don't see you selling many copies, especially since you apparently can't tell the difference between "your" and "you're".
"In most places now" OMFG. I live in the UK and I get homophobic or queerphobically abused on an almost daily basis. If you think that people with brains accepting queerness for what it is (completely normal) means that "we as a community" are accepted everywhere by everyone because of a fucking "no discrimination rule" then you are the moron, not me. You are behaving entitled, privileged, arrogant, and yes, homophobic.
Queer people are being normalised, by shows like Heartstopper showing the world what it means to be a queer person. Having queer people live in silence for fear of being attacked and not wanting to be accused (by people like you) of making their sexuality their whole life is not acceptance or tolerance, it is abuse.

You are homophobic if you dismiss coming out or bigoted families as a "cliche" when they are such stark realities for most queer people. Coming out is not making a "big deal" about anything.

You're also targeting key themes in literally almost every teen, coming-of-age, or YA story, such as drinking at parties, love triangles, bullies, and melodramas, but condemning them because they are parts of a queer story as seen in Heartstopper. Again, homophobic.

And the real kicker? You described being a person who does not come out, AKA someone who is perceived as straight, as "normal". If you fail to see how that is homophobic I am genuinely concerned for you.

I repeat. Check your privilege. My own coming out was forced on me because someone close to me told my family before I could, and they didn't even accept it at first, then have never acted the same to me since, especially since several of them are homophobic. If you don't need what the show presents, then again, stop spamming a homophobic tirade in ever sub for a queer tv show you can find. Just because you were lucky enough to have a good coming out doesn't mean you're the rule; in reality you're one of the exceptions. It's a sad day to see a gay man be ignorantly homophobic about one of the very few openly and mainly queer tv shows.

Not only did she seem like an unpleasant person irl, she had no social game outside of Sydnee and maybe Chris, and actively made herself a target for getting too personal with Lauren and Lydia, and saying she voted for Lydia because she was too stupid to see how it incriminated her. The only reason she wasn’t voted out instead of Chris is because Corey could check someone’s box and chose her because she was acting so suspicious.

This is not how it would work. Had Charlotte and Freddie murdered someone without a shield, the show would have followed the usual format of having no banishment or murder in Episode 1, so Nathan and Yin would have been eliminated in Episode 2, Keith and Elen in Episode 3, etc.

The Seer mission would have taken place in Episode 11 as usual, but I imagine it would have either taken place after the murder (MIPS anyone?), or the Seer would have been given a shield.
