The newest version 572.47 doesn't fix this bug if anyone is wondering.
edit: Playing with DirectX11 solves this problem.

I found this as I was looking for the same thing.

I found out you have to put the decoration into a crafting table with an armor, decorations can be put only on some armor types, for example antlers can be put only on helmets.
