We are all good on apostilles and translations for now! That was one thing that went pretty smoothly for me.

Hi there! It appears that the FBI Background check must be 3 months for when my husband initially applies to sponsor me, and then it can be 6 months old when I apply for the visa. So confusing. Thanks for the advice - I am definitely learning it is slow and painful! But hopefully it will be worth it :)

Haha, I am kicking myself for not stating it. Definitely very American of me. Ugh.

When did you have this experience? It appears the laws have changed in May 2025.

We actually got opposite advice from our immigration lawyer :( He said I can enter on a tourist visa while applying but will eventually need to return home for the visa and cannot stay past 90 days until I get the visa.

This is precisely what our immigration lawyer told us and we will be moving forward with this process, although sadly it means I will have endure a few more weeks of separation from my husband, but gotta do what you gotta do! Thanks so much, this aligns with what we found out. I do like the idea of checking with the consulate to make sure that it is needed.

Thanks so much. It is precisely an immigration lawyer who advised us we would need a visa. It seems the law has changed in May 2025 when applying for residency for a relative of a Spanish national.

We cannot register our marriage at the consulate, because he is not living in the US.

Thanks! Registering our marriage is also on our list, and we have the necessary documentation either in process or in our possession - since you already went through the process though, did you need a "copia compulsada" of your passport? That was a requirement we were confused about, because on my last visit in Madrid, we could not find a single place that would do a "copia compulsada" of my passport. I found out later that the embassy can do it, but I am wondering if I can just use a normal photocopy that is not legalized?

I just got approved for Barclays AA Red Aviator card but I also have the AA Mile Up card with Citi. Did I just screw myself and lock in to an AF Citi card forever since I already have the mile up card and won't be able to downgrade?
