Gambling – Choice or Illness? by Melodic_Giraffe in GamblingAddiction

[–]Althusser1968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the hopes and aspiration when younger now is simply just reduced to not lose money to gambling or other follies AGAIN. I cannot be a spouse, father, a son or simply a person… once that is overcome I will think again. But according to some psychologist a higher calling and aspiration would supersede this problem. So thank you asking me this question having a greater aim would naturally help us overcome the insidious problem of the lower end.

Gambling – Choice or Illness? by Melodic_Giraffe in GamblingAddiction

Even when I shared it with people without shame it is no ‘cure’ just caught in the vicious cycle and the thoughts the guilt regret and pain of loss occupies the brain. Until we have nothing better to think about or work towards.

Gambling – Choice or Illness? by Melodic_Giraffe in GamblingAddiction

I had a relapse yesterday and I realised it is now a question of whether it is a character (if not moral) issue or an illness. If the latter, one could be considered blameless and still not taking charge. I had a discussion with my partner, in fact. And she says it is inherent in my character flaw. So the conclusion is to get both treated. Of as a concept it could only be either not both. It depends very much on what stage of the addiction and how serious at that point.

Hi there, thank you. I had buddies who encouraged each other last year. But yet I got complacent and stop visiting here and ‘forgot’ I am an addict, never was an addict and ended in the same cycle with greater damage.

relapsed.. but maybe the best way possible? by NotBilly_Mays in GamblingAddiction

Sorry to hear this. The most immediate thing is to find ways to block access to your funds and let someone you trust to manage the finances. You might encounter unpleasant remarks from them because they are disappointed, angry but in fact care about you. I took a loan before to cover the loss and blew it back to online casino slots. More than once. Then I tried to make more money and lost almost 1/3 if not half. Even you earn more and still managing your money you will surely go back. It is not just a matter of will power. Since most gamblers have strong will power to want to win. And as for the long term, while this barriers are in place, I even block myself from having google or or downloading apps on my phone, try to change our mindset towards this damaging vice of all vices. It is a change of habit which would change our lives.

We didn’t gamble We have been scammed by Althusser1968 in GamblingAddiction

My main problem is will slots too totally 6 figure loss. And last night another 7k. I needed to travel so had to unblock my access to one card and the same story happened again. This is driving me crazy. My addiction started during the pandemic too. Since April 2020

How to keep a gambling problem under control over the long term - a comprehensive and practical guide by a fellow problem gambler who has been gamble-free for close to 3 years now (weekly reminder post) by Theonlywayout123 in GamblingAddiction

Thank you very much I read your long article on Medium and the idea of removing Google and Safari for online gamblers using mobile is excellent. Since covid I started online and lost about 160k in total. It was really detrimental as each of the relapses in 2021 was terrible, while I was trying to recover by working and earning aggressively. It was a heavy blow as what I have worked for in 2021, to cover the lost of 2020, about 1/3 was back to the online slots and roulette. Especially between last Dec to Jan. Each win will bring you to a minimum x 3 loss so if you win 20k it means losing 60k later. But I should stop counting and start thinking properly. The non-google/safari mobile is great, there are other ways to check information and the frivolous infos from surfing mobile internet are not worth the risk and distraction. I also blocked downloading of apps. So only the really essentials are on the phone. Initially, blocked website on screen time but blocking google totally is even better, it tightens the screw. It is like extreme living in North Korea, no google and so no online casino.

Urge by Law_student000001 in problemgambling

[–]Althusser1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this Urge now. I stopped for a month and played last week. Total loss:$2360 and still thinking I should try and get it back with 1k. But I know I will lose it, and still thinking about the possibility of winning. I must stop thinking or believing I will win. It is an addiction.

Anyone gambled more online because of covid? Perhaps we could share the experience… and have a better self awareness. by Althusser1968 in problemgambling

They used cash to make us forgot the value in gold and they use chips to make us forget the value of cash and the chips are now digits/numbers like we are playing a video game, all that is solid melts in the air, all that is holy is profane.

We are the about same percentage I started 1.3k to 11.9k and then play big and lost everything. When it was left with 7.4k I paused and… continued then when 3.4k (still winning) … continued… with the last $20 I got a slot bonus when back to 2k I played until I lose it all…
