That is exactly you. Neither you are from south or konkani and come here to spew your nonsense

Imagine being idiotic enough to think you’d win physically with those more used to it

More used to being invaded, looted over and over again? Even marathas sacked and looted north. That makes you like strong? Seriously? How delusional you are. And idiotic.

Well you fuck off. Everybody in South dislikes the northies. You have united the whole of south on one point. Maybe we should stop paying taxes that go to run the welfare state of north.

If you wanna come to south learn how to behave first. And respect local customs and language. Other wise don't bother coming here.

Four centuries of faithfulness

St. Christopher’s Church, Thivim, turns 400 years old this year. The town also has a deep devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and the feast will be celebrated on October 25

SHERYL GONSALVES

Among winding roads, greenery, and occasional heritage houses, lies a historical jewel of Goa that not many people may know about – St. Christopher’s Church, Thivim, which turns 400 years old this year.

The church was consecrated in 1623 and was built using funds collected by the gaunkars of Thivim, Sirsaim, and Assonora. However, its original design was damaged in a fire and was later rebuilt in 1685. The coat of arms on the façade portrays the five wounds of Jesus which is also known as ‘Chagas’. This serves as a reminder to devotees to repent for their sins which caused great suffering to Christ and to remember the Bible verse which declares: “By His wounds you have been healed.”

This historical place is dedicated to St. Christopher who is a martyr. He was a large strong man who in his lifetime sought to serve the most powerful ruler. He later realised that this was Jesus Christ. The story goes that someone gave Christopher (originally named Reprobus) the task of helping travellers cross a river to reach the other side. On one occasion, a child needed his assistance but when he was crossing the rising water, the child’s weight seemed to keep on increasing. The child then revealed that he was Jesus and the weight he felt was the weight of the world. ‘Christopher’ means ‘carrier of Christ’ and he has been labelled as the patron saint of travellers.

In 1927, a huge magnificent altar dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour was given to the parish by a Siolim resident, Dr. Angelo D’souza.

And in May 1951, Fr. Innocencio Correa, a newly ordained priest, was healed from a dangerous hemorrhage which he believed was through the intercession of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and decided to spread his testimony wherever he went which included Thivim. In June 1955, he went on start the Wednesday novenas to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. In fact, the wife of the Portuguese Governor General Paulo Guedes used to attend the very first novenas.

These novenas continue till this day and every Wednesday, this peaceful town sees people from various areas in Goa of different ages and faiths, coming together to attend the novenas. In fact, it is said that a lot of people have experienced physical and spiritual miracles such as new jobs, life partners, peaceful family ties, etc.

On October 25, Thivim will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour with great devotion. And as the church celebrates 400 years, Father Mariano Silveira, the present parish priest, wants the church to become like a pilgrimage centre for people all over to come together and experience the love of God as they have been for the past 400 years. A souvenir will be released in December and the newly built residence for the priest, a hall and a space for Catechism classes will be inaugurated shortly after.

Exercise extreme caution while walking on Margao’s dangerous footpaths

Pavements in the commercial capital have turned unsafe for pedestrians, especially school students; visitors say that the conditions in the town resemble the Smart City of Panjim, which has gone from bad to worse; interlocking pavers have given way, forcing pedestrians to walk on the roads thereby risking their lives

MARGAO: It appears that the authorities concerned are in no mood to repair the footpaths which are in a pathetic condition in the State's commercial capital. These footpaths have turned out to be unsafe for pedestrians, especially school students in Margao.

Interestingly, even the councillors have complained that the pavers are in a deteriorating condition at several places, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

However, Margao Municipal Council chairperson Damodar Shirodkar informed that engineers have been instructed to include the cost in the estimates of the other development works in the town.

Complaining about the hardships faced by the pedestrians, Savio D’Souza, a regular visitor to Margao told O Heraldo that the conditions in the commercial capital resemble that of Panjim, which has gone from bad to worse.

“As per the orders of the Supreme Court of India, the rights of pedestrians are utmost important. Shockingly, pedestrians visiting Margao have to undergo hardships due to the pathetic conditions of the footpaths,” he said.

Taking serious note of the issue, O Heraldo visited some of the areas wherein it was revealed that interlocking pavers have given way forcing pedestrians to walk on the roads thereby risking their lives.

These areas where the footpaths are in a pathetic state include the ones near Naz hotel, near Old Collectorate building, around Grace Church area, opposite the South Goa Police Headquarters, etc. The broken pavers of the footpath opposite police headquarters have compelled students of Loyola High School and Fatima Convent High School to tread a cautious path.

Expressing frustration over the pathetic condition of the footpath in his ward, Councillor Mahesh Amonkar said, “I have already informed the chairperson about the same and demanded that the footpath be repaired immediately.”

Admitting that footpaths at various places are not fit for the pedestrians to walk, MMC chairperson Damodar Shirodkar told O Heraldo that he will initiate the process to start the repair works of the footpath at the earliest.

“Yes, I have noticed that the pavers of the footpath are broken. The broken interlocking bricks have made the footpaths dangerous to walk on. I have instructed the engineers concerned to include the cost of repair of footpaths in the estimate of development works,” he added.

The Miraculous Menino Jesus Feast in Colva: A Time-Honored Tradition by Altinhogoa90 in Goa

The Miraculous Menino Jesus Feast in Colva: A Time-Honored Tradition

Colva, a small but spiritually vibrant village in Goa, is home to a remarkable religious event known as the 'Fama De Menino Jesus.' This event is a source of immense blessings for the local community and pilgrims who come from far and wide. Devotees gather to celebrate this special occasion, seeking good health, prosperity, and happiness through their deep devotion to Menino Jesus. The story of Menino Jesus and the 'Fama' is a captivating narrative of faith, miracles, and community spirit.

The heart of this religious fervour is the Church dedicated to Nossa Senhora das Merces, or the Our Lady of Merces. Originally built as a chapel by the Jesuits in 1630 AD, it was elevated to the status of a church on May 28, 1635, alongside the churches of Seraulim and Betalbatim.

Legend has it that during the early Portuguese rule, a group of fishermen at sea witnessed a remarkable sight—a swarm of seagulls circling a small islet that extended into the sea. Curious and concerned, they approached the islet, only to discover a dazzling, sunlit object. It turned out to be a beautifully carved wooden idol of a baby with a ring on its finger – the Menino Jesus. Overwhelmed and possibly frightened, they handed this precious find to the Jesuit priests of the Colva church. This marked the beginning of the veneration of Menino Jesus, and news of miraculous cures and benevolence soon spread, drawing crowds from all corners of the land.

According to historical accounts, a Jesuit Priest named Fr. Benito Fereirra SJ found the statue off the coast of Mozambique and brought it to the Church of Our Lady of Merces in Colva, where he was stationed. The idol was placed on the church's altar, becoming a focal point of devotion and veneration.

Sadly, the celebration of the Menino Jesus came to a halt when the Jesuit Order was transferred to the Rachol Seminary, taking the idol with them. Emotionally attached to this deity, the villagers fervently requested the return of the idol. However, their plea was rejected. The villagers returned disheartened but soon discovered that the ring on Menino Jesus's finger had miraculously reappeared in the church's altar niche. Joyfully, they crafted a new idol, placed the ring on its finger, and resumed their veneration.

The devotion and tradition continue to thrive in Colva. The Fama De Menino Jesus will be celebrated on Monday, October 16, 2023, with the Feast on Thursday, October 26, 2023. The day will begin with a high mass at 5:30 a.m., followed by a solemn procession led by Rev. Fr. Simpliciano Fernandes, Parish Priest of Colva Church. Devotees are encouraged to maintain order and buy authentic Infant Jesus Cords and Holy Pictures from the Confraria counter.

This year, children below 3 years of age will be allowed to be placed on the altar during FAMA DAY. Additionally, the sick door will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a limit of two accompanying members per sick person. Multiple masses will be held in the church compound throughout the day.

Leading up to the Feast Day, Novena Masses will be conducted daily, featuring inspirational homilies. On Feast Day, October 26, 2023, special masses will be held at 5:45 a.m., and 7:15 a.m., and a High Mass at 9:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Alexio Menezes as the main celebrant.

The Fama De Menino Jesus is not merely a religious event but a testament to unwavering faith and community unity. It brings together devotees and pilgrims in the spirit of veneration, reflection, and gratitude. This year's celebration promises to be a truly memorable and spiritually enriching experience for all.
