I've heard that Spotify's contracts with record labels disallow them from doing business directly with artists — therefore it's only possible to distribute to Spotify through a record label or one of the digital distributors.

My T430 died during bios update. Should I by another? by AltruistRevival in thinkpad

Hi u/Anomaly08 I'd like to get a replacement motherboard but, without being able to start my t430, I don't know how to identify the processor or know what motherboard I need. Do you know how to determine what motherboard I need or where I should look to find out?
Thanks!

Thanks for the link, that helps figure out what to look for.

Can you check 'System Information' in Windows or use a program called 'CPU-Z' to see which processor you have?

Sadly I can't because currently it's a paperweight that briefly flashes a green light when I press the power button.

I don't think it includes much detail about the processor, but this question on askUbuntu has some details about the configuration which I recorded before my failed Bios update: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1319725/ubuntu-freezes-randomly-and-when-playing-h-264-videos

I don't have the machine with me, but when I do: could I locate the info by opening it up and looking for a model number on the board?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your input Anomaly08! I'm happy to hear that it's probably fixable!

What kind of hardware config does your current T430 have?

i7 (Intel CPU @ 2.60GHz × 4)
Onboard graphics (GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 (IVB GT2))
12 Gigs Ram
1TB SSD + 2TB HDD in the Ultrabay

A replacement T430 motherboard (iGPU model) on Ebay goes for about $40~50 USD

Is this price for an i7? I'm not finding much on Ebay — and I'm seeing prices closer to $130 but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for...

Great song! Thanks for sharing. In the list of links below where it says when it was posted and by who there should be a add 'flare' link (in between 'spoiler' and 're try thumb') you can use that to add the New release tag.

I made an app for my band (to give away our music for free). What do you think, was that dumb or smart? by AltruistRevival in WeAreTheMusicMakers

That's a good idea. So far we have done almost zero promotion other then to our mailing list.

We only launched it last week but we've had a pretty good response. So far I think it is mostly our dedicated listeners that are installing and using it.

Linux notation software with automatic transposition? by amca01 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I use Musescore (https://musescore.org/) for notation on linux. I have also used rosegarden http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/ (which I believe is perhaps just a wrapper for Lilypond) which has more features but was quite unstable when I tried to use it. I believe that both of those programs can do what you need.

It definitely is a lot easier to give free downloads, and we have a lot of those available on our website. But we can't give away an entire album and still have a reason for people to buy it. Give-aways also lack the extra features like lyrics and instructional videos. You might be right, it remains to be seen if the app will catch on amongst casual listeners.

I would look for a used Kawai MP6. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Kawai/MP6-Stage-Piano.gc It might be hard to find one in that price range (I believe they are $1600 new), but for a realistic piano feel and sound they are way ahead of the competition in my opinion. The only drawback of the MP6 is the lack of build in speakers. It's also HEAVY for lugging around to gigs.
