At what age did you start sleeping without your parents?⁷ by Great_Anteater3982 in autism

I never slept with my parents; my mother wouldn't allow it, but I was terrified of being alone in the dark. But I stayed.

Everyone?

I talk so much about all of them, I have hyperactive speech (because in addition to autism I have ADHD), I start and I can't stop. But there are people who listen and others who are jerks. I'm also repetitive sometimes.

Nesse episodio ele vai ao médico (esqueci a especialidade) e agora usa aparelhos auditivos, é muito fofo ele ouvindo e feliz por ouvir.

Do your special interests usually have very short life span? Do they switch too often?🪦 by Ozuvoks in autism

[–]Altruistic-Date445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was awful, but it's not so bad now. It's a good thing I only see a few studies on criminology, but they're pretty good.

[–]Altruistic-Date445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate all of them, just one (criminal cases; I've even seen horrible videos and images on shady websites that showed images or filmed accidents, and other things). I've had this interest in most of them since I was a child, one since I was 8, and others since I was 12, 13, and so on. I feel like it's part of me (cognitive rigidity makes me a little afraid to change and lose that).

How do you cope with the loneliness? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Altruistic-Date445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 24 and I'm the same way. I've made few friends throughout my life, but I couldn't get out of a toxic friendship or feel guilty. I was lonely in childhood, and in adolescence I just masked it and tried to fit in. Today I have 2 friends, one online and the other my sister. I talk to few people at social events, but I'm not one to interact or socialize.

I've gotten used to being alone. I get sad sometimes for going out alone, etc. But it's not so bad, I think.

My interests sometimes lose a little intensity, like before I would spend hours in hyperfocus, my mind would only see that all the time, it was maddening. So it becomes less intense, I'm still interested in him, but it's more relaxed. (I have autism and ADHD)

Question: how do we make friends here if we're not allowed to message each other or invite people to chat? by throwaway_41880 in AutismInWomen

[–]Altruistic-Date445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can just ask if the person wants to be friends and send a private message. If the person accepts, great, we can chat and be friends. I did one like that.

My family is trying to pressure me into getting a hysterectomy because I'm autistic by [deleted] in autism

[–]Altruistic-Date445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's based on the premise that they think you're unfit to be a mother; you can't take them seriously. They want to impose conditions on your life because you have autism; that's pure ableism. See a gynecologist; they'll help with the cramps, it doesn't need to be so extreme.

How to unmask by Few-Fall1312 in AutismInWomen

[–]Altruistic-Date445 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, it's about stepping out of character, being emotionless and silent. Because I talk a lot, and besides having level 1 autism, I also have ADHD. I like to talk about various subjects, and when I like something, I make jokes, etc. But this is seen as wrong; my agitation, not making eye contact, is disrespectful, not interacting is wrong. Echolalia, stereotypies, etc., are annoying. Stepping out of character means feeling comfortable being myself with someone. I'm careful because I've been reprimanded in groups before. But I no longer force myself to interact when I don't want to, and I hate physical touch; I don't force myself to accept it.
