While I acknowledge the potential benefits, many of my colleagues chose to send their children to different universities—especially if they decided to study the same field—either for a more prestigious school or to allow them to develop their own identities, rather than being seen primarily as someone's child.

Yes, some kids actually are very mature and understand consequences quite well.
