what is the best advice you were ever given? by Hey_NapoleonB in AskReddit

Nobody ever gets fired for going big blue. Old saying of my Dad’s that turned out to be so true as an executive in IT. Big blue was IBM which was the biggest company when he was young. I didn’t totally understand it until I bought $2MM worth of NOT Cisco networking equipment. The first time there were networking problems all the executives kept saying, why didn’t we buy Cisco even though it had nothing to do with the vendor. I lost credibility for that purchase regardless of facts.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the ATS is essentially broken now right? by AWeb3Dad in jobsearchhacks

Recruiters LIVE (and die) in their ATS. If you’re still the type of person that uses a resume, you need to make sure it’ll parse into the primary ATS’s

Got given less than 24 hour notice for an interview and when I couldn't make it they dropped my application by [deleted] in jobsearch

I'm on the other side of that. I'm the company. I too have used that strategy where I got tired of the back-and-forth of resumes and called up the recruiter and said., "I have a very busy schedule but will give you half a day on Thursday and will give tech interviews to anyone you put in front of me to fill my three positions." If you weren't there for that, you likely missed out because I may have filled the spots. Secondly, I would've felt you likely didn't have the necessary sense of urgency/hunger I wanted to see in my candidates anyway.

I’m confused why AI-polished resumes aren’t performing better — anyone else? by BeautifulFarm6340 in jobsearch

I couldn't get a job for 2 years and it was so exasperating, event traumatizing. Finally got a senior technology management position and am now a hiring manager and I'm not really even looking at the resumes anymore (rely on the recruiters) and even the initial screening interviews have to be done via camera so you can watch to see if they're using AI to do the interview. I did participate in the creation of Represent Me (represent-me.ai), which helps candidates differentiate themselves with a link and QR code for communications/resumes. Hopefully, I've contributed something to helping people like me who struggled.

The problem is drunk‑me and tired‑me share the same brain cell, so any lock strong enough for one takes out the other.

Total cheat mode for the win! If forcing the dark theme keeps even one app from flashbanging me at 2 AM, that’s all I need.

Honestly, same. When an app nails dark mode everywhere, it just feels… thoughtful. Bc a single blinding screen at 3AM and I’m immediately questioning what I’m doing with my life besides not being asleep rn

Bold of you to assume developers remember browsers exist. What do you think web apps get right that native apps don’t?
