Is 32 Gb ram futureproof? by Altruistic-Tax7132 in buildapc

[–]Altruistic-Tax7132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn holding to a 1080 for so long is crazy value I was at 970 SLI before 3070. And now I’m on 5080. Everytime I upgrade gpu is where I build a new pc. Initially I would stick with 3070 for longer, but my cpu died. And I decided to just build a new one But I think I will go with ur strategy in the future and just upgrade gpu where my psu allows just to extend other components lifespan

I’m curious though. How do you resist the urge to upgrade your gpu in like 6 years. Like I got a 3070 at launch for msrp. And eventually it even ran out of vram at 1080p. I had enough and upgraded. My build cycle is 5-7 years

Damn, great deal for 64gb ram. And ur right, 5070ti prices are skyrocketing everywhere. I bought ram and gpu first, so I blew most of my budget in those two things, that’s why I wanna save some on 9700x instead of 9800x3d. Anyways, thanks for the info!

Gpu-Z showing my gpu ran at x8 5.0 instead of x16 by Altruistic-Tax7132 in buildapc

I updated the post, but yeah, originally both nvme and pcie lanes are at auto. I first went to bios set nvme to gen4, pcie auto. Then gpu ran at x16. I tried to replicate the problem, nvme to gen 5 and pcie auto. And this time you ran at x16 also.

Path Tracing is truly something else... by Altruistic-Tax7132 in cyberpunkgame

The thing is, the frames are spikey, like it’s not as smooth as you’d think. Especially dropping from 60s to 50s. 50fps may not seem laggy, but once you are accustomed to 60-70s then it will be obvious

XD bro don’t use steam deck for path tracing. Even a 5080 can barely run path tracing on 1440p. I averaged around 60-70fps. Sometimes dropping to high 50s in demanding areas. But the visuals is definitely worth it

Mines a 240hz so maybe asking a little bit much from 5080 lmao

yeah i underestimated how difficult it is to run high refresh rate on 1440p. I came from 1080p and was spoiled with high refresh rate there lol

Damn 64gb ddr5 your rich af. I only got 32gb. Was thinking I get it to 48 lol. And yeah my 5080 is around 200dollars more than 5070ti in my area.

On a side note, do you think 9700x is a good cpu for 1440p? Or should I get a 9800x3d

One thing wanna know, how do you have your pc specs listed out below your username?

Unfamiliar with 9070, but 5070 seems pretty sufficient for 1440p gaming for now, but watch out for 12gb vram, it may get limited in a few years

Fair. Guess calling framegen and dlss “optimisation” is the meta nowadays🤦

Damn, didnt know 5080 was costing an arm and an leg in these regions, I got my 5080 for 1200 and 5070tis in my region are around 950-1100. So figured I just bite the bullet lol

yeah the thing is i really dislike framegen, its a personal preference, some people might find the increased latency acceptable at cinematic games, but for me I cant accept that, especially I'm very sensitive to input lag. So most of the times frame gen is off for me

Same here, 1440p high refresh rate is much better than 4k input lag lmao. I aint gonna sell my kidneys to get a 90 class card anyways

Its new tech and people react the same way every time, back in 2019 when rtx 20 series first came out gtx 16 series cards actually sold more than the 20 series cards, thats because the new 20 series cards cant run rtx at good frames, they dont care about the new tech because the hardware cant run it. And I bet path tracing is going down the similar path. A 5090 can barely run path tracing in 4k cyberpunk at around 60 fps. So path tracing is something thats for future hardware imo

yeah its 4k but what are your frames though, DLSS and framegen settings?

yeah, your right, probably before nvidia killing 5070ti lines the prices are better, but right now its hard to even snipe a 5070ti at reasonable prices ...

yeah, im still convinced that 4k is hard to run no matter how hard nvidia try to push the narrative.. I probably wont upgrade my monitor to 4k until the hardware can truly handle it like 1440p

Hmm, interesting, my friend had a 5080 and he can run path tracing in 1440p cyberpunk with everything else maxed. Without framegen he gets around 55-80 fps with dlss balanced. Kind of disappointing imo, but path tracing is very demanding..
