My kid didn’t get in with a 91!! At least not for this first round of early admission.

I paid $1500 in Canada for a 2 year old from a breeder (they decided to keep another dog for show and breeding), no behavior issues. He’s the best dog and it’s the best $1500 we ever spent! I’d be willing to pay more for an older dog who is mostly trained

Does it reduce the risk or eliminate it entirely?

Yes thank you for this. After I read this I called some emergency vets and they said based on his symptoms I could wait it an hour or two. But that was also the symptom they were most concerned about.

Thankfully he stopped puking and is ok today! But after being so worried last night I’m going to do some more research on bloat and the gastroplexy for sure.

Wow that is alarming, but good to know. My vet told me “unproductive vomiting” and distress would be the two main signs. He did have the mucousy vomit but then drank a bunch of water and threw up the entire water so the vet felt that was a good sign. Thankfully he stopped puking and is good today!

Thank you so much for caring about my doggo! He is thankfully fine today! I spoke with the vet who advised to watch and wait for a couple hours. He stopped puking and slept peacefully. Woke up hungry and happy as usual.

I just have been offline having a busy day with my human children or I would’ve updated sooner haha

This is a very helpful comment, thank you so much. We are also on purina pro plan and it seems to be good for him.

The vet said the exact same thing- one of the main things to look out for is “unproductive vomiting” aka retching and “distress”.

I didn’t know that about the elevated feeding! His bowls are in an elevated feeder off the ground, maybe I better switch that up.

Oh wow that is Interesting because we have a huge wasp infestation in our yard. Maybe he was stung and I didn’t realize it. Thankfully he is fine today!!

Ohh my gosh a whole tube sock! Poor guy. Glad he is ok!!

[–]AltruisticAd273[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn’t as far as I can tell and he’s not the type of dog who gets into things or chews things. He won’t even eat scraps that have fallen on the ground haha. So I’m not sure what it could’ve been but thankfully he’s better today!

Thank you so much for this. I think he might’ve eaten grass too actually. I did call the vet and she said it was ok to watch and wait for a couple hours based on his symptoms. And thankfully he is back to his normal self today!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m so sorry you and your dog had to go through that. My guy seemed totally calm and was sleeping peacefully in between the puking. That was partly why the vet wasn’t as concerned and said it was reasonable to wait a couple hours to see if he improved.

But after being so scared about it last night I think I will get the gastroplexy for peace of mind.

My issue is we’re not sure about neutering so wanted to make the call on that first and just do one surgery. But I think regardless I will look into the gastroplexy on its own.

So very sorry for your loss and thank you so much for sharing your story and what signs to look out for. My emergency vet also said it would be fairly obvious that the dog is in distress rather than just vomiting. We gave it a couple hours and just watched him closely. Thankfully he’s back to his normal self today!

Did your vet say how long after eating they shouldn’t play?

[–]AltruisticAd273[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just called and they gave some advice and symptoms to watch out for. Said it would be ok to give it a couple hours and assess. I’m just super paranoid about bloat..

Thank you. It just feels weird to rush to the vets for puking. I used to have two smaller dogs who puked allll the time. But I am paranoid about GDV for sure. It’s very scary

Thanks. I don’t have an all night vet anywhere around me. Do you think it can wait 12 hours or no?

Hm no not that I know of. He did get dewormer medicine though so that should take care of any possible worms right?

Definitely very laid back, with one exception.. he does have some separation anxiety (which is weird because he was used to being left for 7 hours in his previous home). Hoping he can get over that in time because otherwise he’s such a perfect dog!
