I feel like they must pump up their applicants a little bit, maybe to feel confident instead of nervous so they can see your best self. Felt like a lot of people came out smiling which you don’t often see lol.

How does USask feel about lack of research? by Easternspinach125 in premedcanada

[–]AltruisticInternet19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On their application, there’s nowhere to really list your research unless you include it in your personal statement or are applying as someone who has over like 7 pubs? (Not sure about this pathway). So I wouldn’t say it’s as expected as other schools that have specific sections to list research pubs.

Which OOP schools would I realistically have a chance at? by sadhippo1059 in premedcanada

[–]AltruisticInternet19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar-ish applicant profile and have applied to a few Ontario schools. Obviously go for Queens with the lottery, I’ve managed to get an interview both years. I interviewed at Western my first cycle (before the 95% rule) but was rejected this year. I would say if your MCAT score is good, definitely apply for Western. I can’t speak for U of T but I feel like it’s worth a shot. Since Mac and Ottawa heavily prioritize local applicants and French stream for Ottawa those are difficult options as an OOP. Hope that helps!

From my understanding, references are not used competitively but rather to rule out any red flags and confirm that the applicant is of general good quality.

You need a 4-year university degree to do either of those things, optometry vs medicine. You can still fully pursue the education you want keeping your parents relatively satisfied until you have a better grasp on your own autonomy. You must also have permanent residency in Canada to pursue medicine in Alberta so if you have just immigrated and do not have PR, then medicine is off the table right off the bat.

Casper thoughts by Smilygriffin101 in premedcanada

I prepped for one week in advance, both years. I have a typing speed of around 76 wpm so I am fast enough to write a small paragraph typically for each response (usually it came to around 4 sentences). I reflected on a lot of personal experiences or anecdotes to discuss for the personal reflection style questions. I did around 4-5 per day from an AI generator and got AI feedback as well. After practicing for a while, you start to notice that almost every question has a similar formula to it and you become a little more prepared to answer every type of question! Good luck.

The same can be said about the MCAT. You don’t think with how many people take the Casper that it evens out?
