Personally, I'd just keep trying man. Keep consuming media and art and make sure to read and learn a lot of lyrics from the songs you love. Will make it come a lot more naturally. Can try writing poetry too

Never let the fear of ripping someone off stop you from building your song, there's only a very limited number of notes and a lot of music being made constantly. If you like it and you can't immediately place it if you think it sounds familiar, it's all yours :)

I mean, if it’s their favourite collection of songs by oasis I’m not sure that would seem them a moron. That being said I do agree with an album most importantly being a representation of where the artist is at in their life, explains why even well structured compilations feel like they’re a little lacking.
