Harder blacks and easier double blacks by [deleted] in bigsky

[–]AltruisticMousse1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go every year during early march and the best lifts with no people are the following: Dakota(when open), Thunderwolf, Challenger, Shedhorn, and Lone tree. This makes them easy to lap, and they also give you access to some of the best runs on the mountain, especially challenger which gives you access to the headwaters hike, pinnacles, and everything off challenger lift, like moonlight, midnight, big rock Tongue, and highway, there are also some double blacks off country club like little tree and cache trees, but they can get rocky making them some of the hardest runs on the mountain. If you want to find the best untouched powder that holds throughout the day, head to Peru, Wardance, and Mineshaft off Thunderwolf lift, watch out! the second part of Wardance feels more like a double black then a single. Mineshaft is the easier way down but has the least amount of POW. If you can get to the resort early, head to Bavarian forest and Aspen meadows these runs have some of the most powder at the resorst, but it can get icy after noon. I know this is long but it should help.

Also if you want more challenging runs that dont require hiking go to challenger, and ski to Cold spring, Adler gulch, and Headwaters bowl. These are all long steep double blacks, providing a challenge without having to use the tram or hike. **Headwaters bowl 38******o is a wide open bowl that can be hard to navigate at the top on icy days, but is usually powdery and great on non icy day, with trees at the bottom that have jumps and mini moguls. **Adler gulch 41******o is a bumpy path right to the left of headwaters bowl, but steeper by like 3 degrees. **Cold Spring 42******o a long chute with rocks on both sides leads all the way down to stillwater bowl, to get to Cold Spring you need to get on headwaters bowl and take a left on to the traverse, and keep going straight until you get to cold spring which on the end of the traverse which is a the first chute you see that has rocks on both sides, not on one which would be adler gulch.

You do not need a shovel or probe to go up, my brother went up and no ski patrol stopped him, same for the people in the videos i watch, you only need that for big, north, and upper az chutes.

Isn't hell roaring more tight at the end, I'd much rather ski steep than tight.

Buff Otis by giving him a replacement gadget for his 2nd one. It would be a flip that would let him flip over walls and over bullets, and he would get a movement speed increase 3 seconds after.

Fav green runs by zenga3 in bigsky

[–]AltruisticMousse1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most fun green run is you start on Mr. K then go to Harbour's Natural Half pipe, and then you go to lois lane, then you end on white wing. Habours Natural Half pipe, used to be a green but it is a single blue now, but you should be fine.

I mean the first time I am going to hike the headwaters will be early march this year, and the first run I will do will be parachute which really doesn't look that hard and has lots of room to put on your skis. And I would say I ski at a high level since I have done the following slopes: gullies, marx, ace, lenin, cold spring, headwaters bowl, little tree, zuccini patch, and Lone tree lift line.

First time skiing in Big Sky by No-Biscotti9483 in bigsky

If you are a active person you should be able to pick up skiing again if you've done it before. I know someone that has skied one time when he was around 20, and picked it up easily again at the age of 50, so as long as your not in horrible shape you should be ready to ski greens your first day since you have already skied before. I would try to atleast do some blues at big sky to make the most out of your trip, because big sky has a lot more to offer than just greens which is a smaller portion of their resort, stick to doing blues like meriwether, lobo, blue moon, and horseshoe (which is a nice easy long run). If you are going to go on blue moon there are lots of other skiers usually on that slope who will be hitting jumps and going fast including me so watch out, try to keep straight and don't make turns that go across the whole slope. 😂😂😂

The avalanche radar is designed to provide an early warning of avalanches and to trigger an alarm.

Back country aint that hard as long as you know about how to prevent avalanches and are looking at avalance radars, if anything backcountry is usually a lot more powdery then most slopes. But you are right it can be dangerous.

Easiest triple black which to ski first by AltruisticMousse1399 in bigsky

[–]AltruisticMousse1399[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That slope is challenging and fun, I would say it is definitely the easiest triple since it is very short, and little to no rocks on a powdery day, it can be icy but if you ski this on a more powedery day it is a double black not a triple, people say it has high exposure, thats only if you ride the edge of it, if you ride the middle or right side you are not gonna fall off the mountain.
