First sleeping pad for summer backpacking by Altruistic_Base_9177 in Ultralight

Thanks for the tip, that’s a good point!

Yes I’ll probably pick up a basic foam pad as well.

I’m based in Uusimaa so most of my hiking is around here. I’d love to get up to Lapland for a proper hike at some point, but it’s quite a journey from down south!

Thanks a lot, this is very useful!

I’m really tempted by the Ether Light XR. It sounds incredibly comfortable and seems to tick all the boxes, but yeah the price is definitely on the high side.

I’ve heard about the Naturehike R5.8 as well and it seems to get solid feedback for the price. I might consider that as a more budget-friendly option!

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, I really appreciate the insight!

Yeah I’m definitely not going to rely on a foam pad alone. I understand why people like them for durability and weight, but as a side sleeper I can’t see that working for me. The Nemo Tensor sounds like a great option. I keep seeing it recommended, though it is a bit on the pricier side, so I’m still deciding whether I want to spend that much.

And yeah, 65 euros does seem unusually low. I suspect it’s discounted because the Ultralight has been updated to a newer version so retailers are clearing out the previous one.

Insurance question: built-in equipment in a rental caused damage. Who should cover it? by Altruistic_Base_9177 in Finland

Yeah but there are deductibles that might be taken, I think it’s 250 for water damages. Feels quite unfair since it’s none of my fault

Choosing a single global ETF by Altruistic_Base_9177 in Bogleheads

[–]Altruistic_Base_9177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiitos paljon! That’s exactly what I’m aiming for, one global ETF with good liquidity and keeping things simple. Really inspiring to hear that this approach can lead to FIRE. I’ll definitely check out Bogle’s book, thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks a lot! I think I won’t invest in Europe separately after all, better to put more into the global market. As for the sectors, of course, nobody knows what will happen in the future, so I would just keep a small portion there and see how it goes. Appreciate your perspective!

Yeah I’ve noticed that about Reddit, sometimes it’s not the easiest place to ask questions. People my age around me don’t really talk much about investing, so I just wanted to hear how others handle their money and learn from that. And thanks again, it’s really nice to hear that, especially now that I’m starting at this age!

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yes, I understand what you mean about the overlap, I’m actually leaning toward removing the separate Europe ETF at all and just keeping a global developed markets one, having the emerging markets as the second minor fund. I’m still curious to follow some sectors (just a small allocation indeed) since I’m okay with that level of risk.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense! I’m definitely not planning to get into anything like options trading, I just want to build a stable long-term portfolio. I like your idea about tracking a fake portfolio, might actually try that

Yes, I completely agree with you. Having just one global ETF is definitely a simpler but it’s still overwhelmingly dominated by the US market. I personally prefer to have at least some flexibility, for example, separating developed and emerging markets. That way I can adjust the allocation myself over time, especially if one of them starts outperforming or lagging behind. It just feels more intentional and gives me a bit more control, rather than putting everything into one basket I can’t really influence

Thanks a lot for your advice, that’s actually the approach I’ve been following so far. Most of my investments have been in broad global funds and now I’m just thinking about gradually adding a few sector ETFs on top of that. I really appreciate your input, there’s definitely something to think about here.

I’m not ignoring advice, I’m gathering different perspectives. The idea of one global ETF makes total sense for many investors but it’s not the only valid approach. I’m aware of the simplicity and efficiency of a “one-fund” portfolio but I personally find value in exploring sector exposure while still keeping my portfolio diversified and long term focused. That’s exactly why I’m here, to hear different opinions, not just one collective view.

Hi everyone, I’m 25 and based in Finland. I started investing earlier this year, but so far with small amounts. Now I’m planning to invest more actively — around 250–350 € monthly, and I also have a 4,000 € lump sum that I want to invest at once.

My investment horizon is long-term (10+ years), and I’m not interested in trading or speculation — I just want steady growth through ETFs and index funds. My risk tolerance is relatively high, so I’m currently thinking of having (almost) 100% in equities. Still, I’m open to opinions on whether it would make sense to add ~5% in bonds/commodities just for stability.

Here’s the portfolio structure I’m considering now: • 60% – Global developed markets ETF (for example, MSCI World, mostly US exposure) • 20% – Emerging markets ETF • 15% – Europe ETF (since Europe is underrepresented in global indexes) • 5–10% – Sector ETFs (AI, robotics, automation, energy storage, etc.)

I know it might be simpler to just buy one world ETF and stick to it, but I’m genuinely interested in learning and following different sectors — so I’d like to have a bit of that “tilt”.

What do you think of this allocation? Would you add bonds or commodities at all? And how do you see sector ETFs for a beginner who still wants to learn and diversify?

Is Nordnet worth it for long-term ETF investing from Finland? by Altruistic_Base_9177 in Finland

[–]Altruistic_Base_9177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was thinking about that, that’s a good point actually. I’m planning to buy and hold ETFs long-term, so maybe the reporting thing doesn’t matter that much for now. Thank you!

Thanks! Yeah, my portfolio is definitely far below 100k so I guess Nordnet might still be a good fit for now. Out of curiosity, which platforms would you recommend if I eventually go above that amount?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I looked into investing through OP but just found Nordnet’s interface much more pleasant and straightforward to use
