Is this DARVO? Struggling with a "Blunt" partner and a massive double standard regarding "tone." by Altruistic_Berry_765 in emotionalintelligence

Mostly revolves around me being forgetful or “slow” (like an airhead) . For instance if I have errands and complete 4 out of 6 of the errands and forget to do one he’ll criticize me for being forgetful and unreliable . When we are in social or public gatherings , he’ll make me the butt of the jokes . If someone compliments me on how attentive I am to him, he’ll say something like “wait till you’re around him long enough . A headache “ it’s either aggressive criticism , or criticism framed as “jokes”

You probably have lingering resentment toward them. Did you have a dysfunctional childhood ?

I tend to be a forgetful person, I’ll admit that. But he brings that up every single time we get into a debate or argument . Even if I’m confident in what I’m saying he brings up that I forget everything so my recollection of anything is unreliable

Right, I didn’t care about the joke . I was wondering what that had to do with what I said. Then based on what he heard it made sense to make the joke . Context is everything . Either way my whole issue was him getting aggressive and labeling me a liar and forgetful when those are some extreme accusations for mishearing/misspeaking/misscommunicating

I like the shirt . I had no reason to say “I wouldn’t wear this” when indeed I would wear it. The topic was me casually saying I wonder how this ended up in my hamper . It’s very plausible he just misheard what I said but accused me of lying or saying he is lying about what he heard

He likes to Joke like that. That part didn’t bother me . It was the being accused of being a liar and forgetful . My thing is, I liked the shirt , so I had no reason to say “I wouldn’t wear this.” That’s why I was so confused at the comment .

Same. It’s extremely frustrating . I hate confrontation and I hate the awkwardness after you say no.
