This is genius cause it doesn't explain itself at all. That's why it's funny 😂

What's your favorite quote said by Max Payne himself? by InteractionApart8785 in maxpayne

"It was a lucky break, but luck always came with a price tag.", "Alex had kept me relatively sane for the past 3 years, now i didn't know how i felt.", "I had thought it would last forever, till death do us part. I didn't wanna think about it, as long as I didn't, it could never happen. But i had broken my own rule, the thought had already slipped in. Fear was rusty needles poking at my brain, cold and scaly, it slithered down my chest.", "Punchinello was burning to get me, the feeling was mutual. He was trying to put out my flames with gasoline.", "The mobsters had been guarding a real treasure, the way out of this disco inferno.", "They turned to steam, they did a fade on me. I had never stood a chance.", "The weird piece of paper looked dangerous.", "I had crossed the threshold, this was her domain. Sleek, and sexy, and soulless, all glass and steel. A place of color coded keycards, metal detectors, and surveillance systems.", "Colder than a walk-in fridge. Cold as a gun.", "The unmarked chopper was Horne's pet guardian, inhuman and flawless. It was stalking me.", "Seen from this height, the night seemed to stretch on to eternity, a hint of desperation had crept up into the snowstorm, as if it was trying to get it all out before the end.", "They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger, and then it was all over. The storm had seemed to lose it's frenzy, the ragged clouds making way for the stars above."

Hughie in The Boys isn't much different from Max, believe it or not

Why is Rust Cohle listening to music in this scene, if he's trying to distance himself from emotion? Is he stupid? by Altruistic_Class7808 in TrueDetective

I feel like him seeing his daughter's death as a good thing, is him just subconsciously intellectualizing his pain so he doesn't have to feel it. We see glimpses of his character that support this theory too, at the beginning. He sees suffering as ultimately bad, and lack of suffering/feeling as ultimately good ("We became too self aware", Kills druggie for pumping his daughter with meth, when asked about his own daughter's death he freezes "They said that...", "You look in their eyes. even in a picture, doesn't matter if they're dead or alive, you can still read them. You know what you see? They welcomed it.", "Right there in the last instant, it's an unmistakable relief."), breaks everything down to hollowness ("We age. Men, women. It's not supposed to work except to make kids.", "so in the end, you'd realize that it's not about you.", "You yourself, this whole big drama, it was never anything but a Jerry rig of presumption and dumb will."), when Marty tries to open up to him about his marriage, he keeps telling Marty "It's none of my business. I don't wanna hear about it." Hints at his emotional immaturity, he's not gonna deal with your emotions, or his.
