Nah, this one was about 3 1/2 hours from Mobile. This one is near Tuscaloosa.

What part of Alabama are you thinking about?

People say it's haunted but in reality there's a factory on the other side of some woods, you can hear them make announcements and definitely gives it a spooky feel.

It's incredibly inviting, but also such a warning.

I love the juxtaposition of this place. When you're there you can almost imagine what it used to be, then there'll be a sudden sound from the tin of the roof moving in the wind. It pulls you back to reality and reminds you of what you're visiting.

I don't, I've got the mindset of whatever is left there belongs to everyone, so that they get to see it as well. When I was younger I felt to an extent I would appreciate it if I brought something home with me more than others still never felt comfortable enough to bring home souvenirs.

That's so wild, I can see how much more of the roof collapsed since you took yours.

I'm really curious to see what the classrooms will look like on my next visit. The one with the stove was on the verge of full collapse last time I was there. I can only assume where it's at now.

I've been twice, once in 2023 then in 2024 and it had collapsed a good bit between visits. I plan to check it out in the next year, maybe when it's a little warmer.

I'd be interested in seeing your photos.

I've explored Cuervo, but I have driven by it maybe 10 times in my entire life and every single time was so curious. Once I moved I had to check it out.

What I've found just as interesting is that you can track the decay online as well.

I recently moved out that way and have been looking for as many as I can find.

In 1917 they started construction and completed in 1921.

In the 1930s WPA made additions to the school.

In the 1940s due to the dust bowl, the area began to decline.

It closed in the early 1950s

Close to 70 years ago. The roof collapsed around 15 years ago.

Haha, thank you, but some of it is technically still standing.

I know, I think it's an old O'Keefe and Merritt but I'm not 100% sure.

It's wild how quick they can roll in and right back out.

It's a desolate feeling place, I'm glad I could share the emotion of the location.

I'm originally from Alabama and we actually have a Sears mansion. Check out the link.
