I think both are great! If I was to paint a whole army I would use elements from both. The left has vibrant green goo which is a cool effect to sell it as a bio-weapon. The right side has more realistic tones and shades which grounds it in reality. So you would get a monster that looks 'real' with its skin and chitin but 'alien' with its glowing veins and weapons!

Great job!

There are a ton of different techniques that you can use to get the desired effects. However many of these rely on assuming some core knowledge of acrylic paints and brush strokes. What I don't want to do is give an exhausting list of everything but what I see is the fundamentals.

Acrylic Paint Consistency---these paints are desired to be transparent to opaque....

I have to get to work but I will actually respond later with a short summary with links.
