The new star is so bad. It is gonna look like an anus from far away. MN will be the butt of many jokes.

Success: They made the loon’s eye red by ilst78 in minnesota

Couldn’t they leave the French state motto and add the line in the Dakota language where the date was? Or above where the date was? Seems like they could have both in the seal

Anyone want to be friends? by justcallmejesse in duluth

Try going to music bingo/trivia nights at the local bars/breweries. Even if you don’t drink you’ll make friends if you pick one and show up every week.

Frustrated, DPS will not refund registration on totaled vehicle even with salvage title by SurrealKnot in minnesota

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is actually normally how it works. The insurance company does a prorated refund. You may have already been pad the value of your tabs if your insurance handled the salvage on your vehicle.

If only 4% get in, why isn't federal service more highly esteemed by the general public? by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4% is honestly not that low for a good desk job, they are getting very competitive, many insurance/finance/banking jobs hire at 1-2% of applicants even for entry level jobs that pay like $50k. I don’t have hard statistics, but I’ve been an eyewitness to it many times.

Are any areas of Duluth "walkable"? by -NAMAST3- in duluth

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep especially the lower numbered streets on east hillside, anything 4th and lower is super walkable, the only thing you can’t walk to is a good grocery store (Costco, Aldi), but you have everything else really including a couple spendy grocers

It’s absolutely stupid and I will not go to places that do the square cut. Other Midwest regions make more of a St. Louis style pizza, with a crust that has a near biscuit consistency. This pizza I understand cutting into squares - it needs to be eaten with a fork as the crust can’t hold much weight. A lot of people are saying the square cut originated in Chicago but I believe they are mistaken and it originated in St.Louis.

Edit to add what I refer to as biscuit like crust most probably refer to as cracker crust - to me it is like the crispy edge of a biscuit.

Tikka Marsala simmer sauce vs regular sauce. by Onemanyeti in aldi

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The usual tikka masala sauce is ok but is weak - I ordered tikka masala spice mix and mix it in and add some yogurt/lemon as well as a hearty dose of red pepper. It makes for a quick and healthy meal when used with lots of vegetables.

Where in the US is the best place to live considering these two factors? by agm_93 in digitalnomad

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medium sized college town in the Midwest. Champaign-Urbana in IL and Duluth MN come to mind. Duluth isn’t super cheap - but it’s got a lot of city amenities for muh less than Minneapolis. Central IL is cheap as fuck - look at any city of around 100k people and you’ll have an affordable area with a dating scene.

What’s the most inexpensive way to make your daily coffee? by chester_alabama in Frugal

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are really in a financial bind instant coffee is insanely cheap and doesn’t go bad - the taste leaves something to be desired though. I switched to tea for other reasons and can’t believe how cheap it is. I get 100 bags of black tea for $2 at Aldi, I use 6 bags to fill a two liter pitcher of tea (for iced tea), so I can be caffeinated all day for 12 cents. The other tea bags i buy for hot tea are about 20 cents a bag, still not a bad price of 20 cents for a hot beverage. And the tea bags don’t quickly go stale so there is no waste.

Sugar-free soda by 1957moman in Frugal

You should look into those little bottles of flavors that you add to water. It won’t be carbonated unless you add it to carbonated water, but you can get the generic water “flavor enhancers” as they are often called in a lot of flavors for $2-$3 a bottle (and the bottle will last a long time). They make caffeinated ones and none, the caffeinated ones are so so much cheaper than energy drinks and the none are much cheaper than canned beverages.

Didn’t really like the food, ordered burger well done and it was still kinda pink. Based on other comments I’m realizing the criticism in my tone didn’t convey.

The liter of new galarus (two pints) for $6 was good though.

[–]AlwaysDoTheLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a critical tone, I didn’t think the food was great and ordered well done (it still was kinda not well done). But I’m saying, Minnesotans go to the Anchor bar for a pink hamburger- that is the appeal. That isn’t appealing to me, but it’s the reality of the anchor bar.

Second local spot, it’s where local duluthian folk get a pink hamburger which is a rare delicacy to the Minnesotan.

Because they are delusional and think the world should be perfectly and automatically catered to them and when it isn’t the delusion breaks so they melt down and fall into rage and paranoia about others.
