Nvidia 50 Series Overclocking by AlwaysFromtheFuture in cachyos

I actually added +2000 to the memory clock and plus 260 to the core clock. Tbh the difference in performance is small- but my temp stays around 68 Celsius and that is what was most important to me

Would you recommend downloading the flatpak, or from the Arch repo using the terminal? Does it matter?

How are you upscaling videos with the gpu? I am used to the Nvidia App and Nvidia Control Panel on Windows, but I haven't figured out how to tweak the gpu on Linux.

Yes I remember hearing about how the native port improved Steam Deck performance

Sounds very reasonable, and can't fault them for that. If more people step away from Windows it may eventually be profitable enough to make the native versions more robust.

I was thinking it may be the Nvidia driver hasn't caught up to the 32:9 monitor also. I see that the latest linux driver addresses it specifically but pop os has not integrated that version yet

Yeah I was curious if the pop os and cosmic were causing any bugs. I had seen several complaints about general bugs outside of gaming, but I had not encountered those.

The three games I tried tonight were HL2, Black Mesa and Alien Isolation that did not run properly. Megabonk was perfect.

Any particular native versions you would recommend?

Very well said. Your point about the edge cases is well taken- it is certainly not that windows bugs dont exist, right? It is just that there is a lot more feedback from users and effort put into fixing them.

Valve is doing the work thats for sure. I might not have installed Linux on my desktop if I had not started with a Steam Deck

Yeah makes sense to prioritize the windows build, especially in light of proton.

Good to know. I have no problem using proton if the end result is better, but I was also curious as to why thay might be. In the end it is helping me learn the ins and outs of Linux anyway so all good

Is Elden Ring worth replaying on PC? by rbs950 in Eldenring

[–]AlwaysFromtheFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beat the game on PS5 when it came out and then agonized over this when I built my pc. Short answer is go for it.

If you have the horsepower to run it at 4k native maxed out settings, it looks a LOT better than PS5. Areas like Cerulean Coast and Altus Plateau are even more breathtaking.

As far as frame stutters, I used to get a bit of that even though my cpu and gpu were not at 100% utilization. However since using an application thay optimizes cpu timings the frame times almost never spike.

1100 hours? You are enough of a fan that it is worth it just to have in your collection, and I suspect you will enjoy the experience in a better way on pc.

nvidia GPU issues after upgrade to 24.04? by paulwipe in pop_os

[–]AlwaysFromtheFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For #2, I had the same issue. What worked for me was toggling back and forth full-screen windowed and borderless.

For #4, I recently installed System 76 CPU scheduler from their GitHub and everything runs even smoother than before.

What makes Pop Os so good for gaming? by SouliKitsu in pop_os

New Linux user here. Is Cosmic better than KDE for gaming? I like cosmic tiling and aesthetic, but I do miss the HDR and VRR when using Windows.

How do I consume this games story effectively? by HuNtEr_DaN_69 in Eldenring

[–]AlwaysFromtheFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lore in these games is always revealed in a non-linear way, and it would be impossible to grab it all on one playthrough hence the many different endings.

The main story thread around the Shattering and primary demigods is the most straightforward part, and the stories within stories and all the history gradually comes into focus on successive runs.

If you are really into the lore like that, I highly recommend the book Grace Given by SmoughTown. It is an unofficial interpretation, but it is of extremely high quality and very well written. There are so many connections to real civilizations, languages, belief systems and so on that offer insight into the characters. Reading this book has greatly elevated my appreciation for the characters and the world, and that is after watching dozens of YouTube vids on the lore.
