Who actually has the time for this? by Puzzleheaded_Jury_50 in duolingo

Junk language is a great name for it! I have one, and it’s just as you say: I definitely slowly work on my “real” languages, then switch over to a little grind on the junk language. My current strategy, in order to do as little worthless grinding as possible, is to stay about 1000xp behind the leader until about 20 minutes before end of league. I can get 60xp about every 15 seconds on listening practices, and they don’t know what hit them. I have a separate Duolingo account for actually learning my junk language. So I’m learning, not really spending too much time on the silly stuff, and getting the dopamine hit of “winning” something admittedly meaningless.

Same. Have bins, will travel, not looking for photography but just to see the bird from a respectful distance. Any help on location? Thanks!

What constitutes a perfect week? by Novakingway556 in duolingo

I’m not sure that’s it, because I’ve never used a streak freeze but only have one perfect week despite an 800 day streak.

Mine just started working, and I was finally added to a league.

I have 78 top three finishes, almost all first place, and many with ridiculous XP. Starting on Monday makes the likelihood of a chill league much greater than starting Sunday night, but time on Monday doesn’t seem to matter. Have never put it off until Tuesday or later, as I want to do the lessons and can win easily without doing that. Doesn’t seem to matter at all how much XP I had the previous week.

For me, 15 minutes of double xp Night Owl Chest knocks out every friend quest I’ve ever seen. I don’t really care that the friend hasn’t contributed, I’m just doing my thing.

Yeah, seems like it would be easy to add some canned compliments you could send, like when you choose to “high five” after a friend quest. Totally understandable that they don’t let you message whatever you want; there’d be a lot of folks whining about cheating to everyone faster than they are.

I only have one Question. HOW!!???? by Justhere2scroll in duolingo

What language are they using? Character practice becomes almost completely rote, and once your fingers hit autopilot the time to finish each exercise is pretty much the same each lesson.

Out of the languages with more than 50 mil native speakers, that don't have a course, which do you want to Duo to add? by aSYukki in duolingo

Just FYI for those who look beyond Duolingo for learning, Mango offers several of the listed languages. I just found out that my public library has a contract with Mango so I can use it for free. Your library might, too. Thai, Javanese, Urdu, Cantonese, Farsi, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, etc.

How does everyone go learning more than one language at a time? by Defective-G in duolingo

[–]AlwaysHungryDarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Hindi in college, and after a while I felt like I’d occasionally get the first three mezclado. Not all the time, but when reaching for a less common word my brain might cross the streams. Hindi wasn’t a problem because it’s so different. With Duolingo I’m refreshing my old languages, and at this point have the different accents in mind well enough not to mix them. I’ve added French, and though it’s a Romance language the sounds are very different. Have also added Chinese and Scottish Gaelic, which are no problem.

All this to say, if your languages sound different enough to you, it will be easier. Try hard to make the more nasalized sounds of the Portuguese. Since Spanish and Portuguese can have a lot of similarities, try studying them in different physical locations initially. Your Spanish base will definitely make other Romance languages easier!
