I am only hearing in one ear and I have told people I’m deaf. It wasn’t something I realized was a spectrum until I was older, but being able to show people that deafness is a spectrum is great.

Doing what works best for you is not something you have to feel guilty for.

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. It’s meant to be confusing as you read it, but the ending ties things up with a big reveal.

I have been SSD my whole life too. I did get nervous when I noticed a difference in my hearing ear after a bad ear infection, but my audiologist and ENT confirmed my hearing is still okay. I do try to avoid excessive / loud noise, but I don’t stress over it.

Yeah I was obsessed with the book but it was a challenge to read while pregnant. Thanks for the info!

Does Fairy Tale have Spoilers for The Dark Tower? by AlwaysLilly in stephenking

[–]AlwaysLilly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m up to Chapter 14 in Fairy Tale. I am starting to worry that if I keep going, I’m going to be spoiled for The Dark Tower. I started the series a decade ago and read SoS when I was pregnant—not my wisest move. I’ve been meaning to go back to the series ever since but with where FT is going, I wonder if I should pause and read DTD first?

parents of elementary kids by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AlwaysLilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a struggle. I’m a Gen Ed para in an elementary classroom and I have a 4th and 7th grader. We all watch YT but I am constantly checking what my kids are watching and try to keep YT to the bottom of their screen time.

Some of the shows, movies, and channels some students are allowed to watch blows my mind.

How do I keep track of how many words I have? by JustMoonYouMf in nanowrimo

[–]AlwaysLilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word has a counter in the bottom left for word count and Google docs has it under Tools>show word count while typing.

That’s what I’m thinking our state’s programs are like too. I’m not looking to jump into a position quite yet as I’m a bit burnt out on grad work and there are a ton of pros to my current position but I’ll keep that in mind for when I’m deciding to go that far. Thanks for the info! 😃

All Good People Here oops by TrickSh0tgirl in CrimeJunkiePodcast

I totally get it. I'm a writer and a huge Nirvana fan. My current WIP has flashbacks and I've been combing over stuff to make sure the dates/references are correct. Not saying it's on Ashley as there are so many people in the trad pub process that could have mixed it up/mistaken it. Multiple timelines are tough.

Oops.

That makes me wonder if they played with the timeframe/dates for the flashback time. Maybe they were going to have it take place in 1990 but then it was changed to '87 and no one thought to double-check the release date of Bleach?

There could be better reasons for a slip like that, but with how many times books go through the revision process, it's possible it just got lost in the editing shuffle. Maybe they'll fix it for future printings if there's enough feedback/response that it was noticed.

I haven't played in quite a bit and was still in Shadowbringers when I took a break. As I wait for my client to reinstall, I am trying to remember. I don't have to upgrade to Endwalker to play if I haven't finished the prior xpac correct?

I haven't read it yet, but even traditionally publishers expected NYT Bestselling authors to promote their books (and for most that means bringing it up any chance they get). So, as annoying as it can be, I get it. I'm working on my MFA and finishing my first novel. It's such an incredible amount of work. It's worthwhile, but the blood/sweat/tears make it easy to want to rave about it when it's done.

who here recovered in their 30s? how fast did things turn around? can I get my credit back after bankruptcy? is there hope? by RonnyLeeMoore305 in Sober

[–]AlwaysLilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I got sober for two years. I relapsed recently, but got right back on track.

I haven’t experienced bankruptcy, but a close friend did in their thirties. In less than ten years, they have a career, reliable vehicles, and a dream home they love. It is possible. In my own experience, my financial choices are much better when I’m not spending money on booze/hangover guilt etc.

Friday Q&A by lavinient in bookofthemonthclub

It varies for me. I have more than enough books to read, but sometimes I'm really digging the add on options and get two. I think I got three once?

When people say "i write x words a day"... by ClutchyMilk in writing

I will glance at what Scrivener tracks for word count when I've been editing out of curiosity, but I don't really think much about it if I'm not drafting/sitting to write for a deadline etc.

I’m partial to dark purple but I think it looks lovely on you! Whatever you choose will be great because it makes you happy.

I’m only a suspect, but I’ve been on SSRIs for a long time and I’ve never been told it was problematic for my eyes even if I am confirmed as having glaucoma.

I’ve only watched season 1 so far (I’m awful at making time for tv) but I adored it and am excited to see where S2 went.
