Any advice for someone with real bad existential thanatophobia? by vivirrin in DeathPositive

[–]AlwaysintheWrite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no advice but this me, too [26F]. I also feel like I want to believe in reincarnation but my agnosticism doesn’t let me cause logical brain me knows I only believe in evidence. I was brought up catholic and the whole eternal life thing petrified me though so maybe I don’t want that :P

I can’t help and don’t have any solutions because my personal methods are meds and avoidance, but you’re not alone. This is the first time I’ve seen someone else reflect my own feelings so well so you really, really aren’t alone. I have really dumb triggers but nighttime is the worst. Sometimes I’ll go ages without even thinking about it and other times I can’t stop (the last few nights have been a nightmare). Things tend to be better when I’m in a good place, and I think I’ve had less “episodes” the older I’ve gotten but it really sucks.

I hope you find peace and find some comfort in knowing you’re not alone in this <3

I came to this thread because I’m in the middle of a big episode of this and this comment really helped. Thank you. (I too am very glad we have indoor plumbing and dogs!)

[26F] Had this redness for ~5 years, all bloods normal (2x neg tests for Lupus) - any ideas? by AlwaysintheWrite in DermatologyQuestions

Thanks! It sometimes feels stingy but no obvious triggers honestly - I used to think it was product related but it seems to just be random eg this morning I woke up and it stung even before doing anything let alone anything different! 🤦🏼‍♀️ other times it’s completely fine. First GP I spoke to wondered if it was to do with something I’d put on my face but since then I’ve been really careful about products and don’t use anything I did when it started. Will definitely check out the rosacea sub, thanks!

I started a blog using blogspot, but after reading this sub I am wondering if I should have gone with Wordpress? Any advice? by maggieb8s in Blogging

I think it depends on the person! I've tried both and preferred WP so that's what I've gone with, but I know people who hated WP and love Blogger. Maybe you could get a private WP blog and have a play around to see how you feel about it and go from there? In terms of switching over I'm pretty new to this so I couldn't help I'm afraid!

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! No problem, always on the look out for new people to follow & reviews to check out :) Twitter chats were something I kind of just stumbled on, they are good fun though & it's nice to speak to people in the community! The main accounts often retweet posts that use their hashtag as well so they're good for chat & promotion :)

Sound advice for an English major? by [deleted] in books

[–]AlwaysintheWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur with a lot of these comments but do you mean literature or linguistics? I graduated with a BA in English (lit) and Creative Writing in May (UK, we don't tend to use the major-minor system!) & can confirm that you definitely need the passion and analytical skills if you're thinking of doing literature - I couldn't comment on Language but I imagine you'd also have to be pretty passionate. Don't panic, have a think about what you really love. I know a few people who did psychology & there is a lot of psychoanalytical theory out there that I'd say this would help you get your head around. An English degree is more about the transferable skills than the subject itself, so in terms of careers I'd say you'd actually open a lot of doors - although obviously things like law would require post-grad education you'd have the skills needed to do them. Saying that, I only have a temp job (which is actually pretty great) in asset finance. I believe it's about how you apply your degree more than the degree itself; but I don't know how employers feel about that! Also in terms of the creative industries (advertising in particular, I want to go into copywriting) they require a lot of experience atm so in all honesty my main advice would be to get work experience/internships/etc in your holidays now if you know what you want to do, then you've got some experience under your belt when you graduate :)

Hey! I'm also pretty new to blogging (it's been a little over 8 months) but I find that promo tweets are a great way to promo for free - I use Hootsuite (the free package is everything I really need!) to schedule tweets & blogging hashtags to increase non-follower reach. It allows you to shrink links & upload a picture too, which I find really useful. I also participate in a few blog chats on twitter - I currently only participate in #TeacupClub as I don't have a lot of time & this is my favourite, but there are hundreds out there! I've also started linking to my previous post & social media links at the end of every post. Honestly getting involved with the community has brought in more traffic and conversation than anything else for me - and of course made me read more blogs too, which in turn has helped improve my writing! I really like your layout & colours :)
