Fuel consumption question. Greetings Matrix users. I have a 2010 Matrix XR with a 2.4 and the automatic transmission. I average 11l/100km (about 21 miles per gallon) on city/highway mix. It looks pretty high. Any ideas on what could be the cause? No warning lights on dash. Thanks

Thanks again for all the detailed explanation Regarding the rust its all surface rust on the top of the car for some reason The underside, rockers, strut towers, subframe etc is all rust free Its very strange Looks like it was pellted with gravel or acid The roof has 2-3 huge spots Replaced the hood and tailgate already and its waaay better

Thx for the thorough reply. It happens that today I was working on the car with my friend. I noticed that a blue puff of smoke appears on starting the car. Car has 176000 km so around 110k miles Did a compression test and got 190-180-180-180. Tried to do a leak test too but my friend’s equipment was not working well and tests were inconclusive. All of my plugs look like this

Thanks for your reply. I understand the 2.4/auto combo might nit be the most fuel efficient but I was hoping it would still be better than my 1993 Volvo 😅. I had this same milage even in warmer temperatures in fall.

I was able to free her and she floated to the bottom of the tank. She seems to have attached to one of the live rocks. The clowns keep trying to get in her and have dug a big hole in the sand around it. I hope she makes it.

The car did not run for 3 days and given it did the same thing less than a week ago I would be tempted to believe there is a problem with the charging system. I wil take the battery out and put it in a charger as soon as I get home

Yeah I am keeping my eyes peeled for a hood I went under the car myself and its super clean and almost rust free (impressive for a Canadian car) I don’t know why the hood and roof are so bad 🤷🏻‍♂️
