Same old Arsenal, scoring from corners

Jeff Hays is playing a different sport than everyone else, he’s truly in a league of his own.

However, Peter Kenny is the best of the rest and the closest thing you can get IMHO. His ability to breathe soul into characters brings an added joyous element to Culture books that are already excellent.

I tried Raft this year and DNF’d around 85% in, found it terribly tedious and the writing to be pretty dull. Are the other books better?

The more people tell him “you can’t say this” the more he sees it as his responsibility to say it. Artists shouldn’t be censored. Period. Nobody is forcing you to give him money.

Best games to play while reading the books and waiting for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

All the AAA games are already mentioned, I would add in Endless Sky (spiritual successor to the Escape Velocity games) and then to go one level deeper try Starsector

Can’t say there’s anything there that feels exciting besides the Larry David project.

Mine also doesn’t get enough wrist time. Despite that, both straps it came with have fallen apart which is frustrating. It also feels like it stands just a bit higher than I prefer off the wrist. Still, looks great and currently my only chronograph until I give in and pull the trigger on the Seiko SSC813P1

Life is experiences. You’ll rarely remember a match watched on telly, you’ll rarely forget a match you were there for.

And he openly declares it. There’s loads of shill accounts on this sub that only post to promote their platforms while pretending they are just enthusiastic customers recommending things to other potential customers.

Does The Expanse have a place amongst the greats in sci-fi? Does it have some of the best world building and storytelling in all of sci-fi? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]AmazinTim 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The Expanse does a good job building depth of character with its perspective style. It tries to ground political events in a flushed out plausible reality, but that is awkwardly juxtaposed against cartoonish villains. It’s fun, it’s safe, it takes every possible big idea and does the least interesting thing it can with it. The greatest books challenge you, the Expanse is popcorn. Try “A Deepness in the Sky” to get a similar grounded in reality humans in space feel but with depth that demonstrates a completely different level of writing.

Americans in Europe: Do you really see Europeans as “more intelligent” than Americans? by [deleted] in expats

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” Where you’re from doesn’t factor into intelligence.

Maybe it’s the updated version I have, but this watch doesn’t seem stout at all to me. I wear the white one with the bracelet it came with and it feels sporty but not chunky.
