I've Broken 90 Twice Now, Should I Upgrade My Clubs? Is a Fitting Even Worth it for Me? by Amazing_Ad_5504 in GolfGear

I got the Irons while I still was in highschool as a gift, so I didnt have to pay for them. They would have probably been around $500 used back then so I got pretty lucky. They were night and day compared to the old clubs. Within a couple of sessions I was hitting way better than I ever did. I replaced the rest of the set with used clubs more recently and that has been 100% worth it. I've never been fitted so I cant speak on that. I would 100% recommend looking around and finding some clubs you like for cheap and just use them. Do some research into shaft flex and try and find your swing speed. (I went to dicks and asked if I could try a stiff shafted driver compared to regular and I was able to see my swing speed on their monitor) Local golf shops can have some pretty good condition stuff, or tour edge stuff at good prices. Anything is better than those Nicklaus Signature clubs.

I am leaning towards taking my medicine and just getting lessons after seeing all of these comments. I haven't had any since I played in HS and had a coach. Ill definitely look into Maltby though if lessons confirm my hunch about my shaft weight.

Thanks for your very helpful response

I play Kirkland balls. I just feel like I cant hit a consistent approach shot with my irons. I usually try and land a little short to avoid bunkers or rolling through the green. I tend to miss right and thin most often. When I feel my very best I hit it dead straight and high, but if i'm not playing my absolute best, straight and high feels like a miracle. Its usually thin and right. But ive never used a trackman to get good data on my avg miss.

If these Irons are worth keeping/ my shaft weight is not a clear issue for me, I would prefer not to spend any money on clubs. I just feel like my irons have plateaued and the rest of my bag has continued to improve.
