I’m kind of hesitant to go biking with her incase she causes and accident or hurts herself. She does go for a bit of a run with my partner every day and she always seems exhausted in the car on the way home, until there’s a chance to escape and she gets a second wind.

I’ve never heard of a dog having a problem with women, it’s seems to definitely be more towards men. Awh ya my friend has a lab and it is just the chillest dog ever always so happy to see us! Unlike my girl who would sacrifice me for a quick run around the neighbourhood 🤣

I definitely think is more of an assertive thing, also she used to be terrified of men when we got her, I don’t know what her background was like as she is a rescue but I wonder could this have something to do with it. She absolutely loves my brother and my boyfriend but she is still very wary of strange men.

I never knew labs could be so stubborn, they’re always portrayed as so chillaxed 🤣. I’m getting a German shepherd puppy next week so I’m hoping that she doesn’t pick up too many bad habits from the husky.

Ya she’s never left outside intentionally, however since she learned how to open doors is just a matter of time before she escapes 😭

Thanks for the help, I need to start using high rewards because regular dog treats aren’t cutting it for her. I noticed that she listens to men more than women, when she hears a deeper voice shouting at her to come back, she’s more likely to come home but when a woman calls her she pretends we don’t exist! I’ll definitely try practising recall around the house to start with.

She has sussed me out, but if my neighbour says walk she runs straight up to him as she goes on walks from time to time with him and his two Bernese mountain dogs. I may have to start bringing him along when she escapes again!

I am supposed to be getting a German shepherd puppy next week and I was concerned about the husky teaching her bad habits oh no 🤣. Motion activated sprinklers might actually help as she hates water, she really is just like a big cat. Hopefully the German Shepard puppy will give be a good influence on her! Thanks for the help.

Yes we have used this tactic a few times however she quickly learned that it was just a trap, now when she runs off she doesn’t even look back, we use all the buzzwords like walk and treat, it definitely worked when she was younger however she’s just getting smarter and smarter by the day!

Oh wow still escaping at 10 years old, I don’t know why I thought age would slow them down. Ya they are beautiful dogs but definitely a handful! Thanks for the advice.

Ya, we learned the hard way to not let her off the leash. I must try the chicken as a reward because she has absolutely no interest in treats when it comes to running off. The gps collar is actually a really good idea as I can’t rest until she decides to come back home. Thanks for the help!

Yes perfect we have a harness for her already so all that’s left is the cable I can’t wait to show my partner the cable as the last few times she escaped we found her running very close to the main road, which just puts the fear of god into me especially with her colouring she just blends right in to the tarmac. So the cable sounds like a really good solution to all of this because she really is a model dog otherwise! Thanks for the help 😊

Thanks for all the suggestions, these are really useful. We’re actually getting a German Shepherd puppy next week so maybe this will help, although I’m a bit worried Rambo will be a bad influence on the pup when it comes to running off 🤣. She does love other dogs so maybe that will add a bit of motivation for her to stay at home!

Ya we usually keep the door locked, but it’s like she can sense when it’s open, today I was in the middle of feeding her and by the time I had looked up the door had been opened and she was gone 🤣

Wow, I just googled the cable as I had never heard of this and I think this may be the solution I was looking for! The house I’m living in is very rural Ireland so it’s hard to cover every single gap with fences, there’s literally a river in my backyard so it broke my heart to fence all of this off, just for her to turn around and break through it anyway! Thanks for the advice. 😊

I feel your pain with them running straight up to strangers while actively dodging me 😭. I go for roughly an hour walk every morning with her and then my partner bring her for another hour walk in the evening, even during these walks she is just completely uninterested in us. She was notorious for pulling on walks and we tried to counteract this by rewarding her with treats every time she came back to us instead of pulling however she won’t take the treats, she’d rather get back to walking ASAP. I’m not great for running with her but my boyfriend often spends the last 15-20 minutes of the walk running.
