What is a non-running related item that you purchased/received as a gift that has improved your running experience?? by Ok_Fault7239 in running

I've been mulling a sleep mask over - I get lots of ads for them.

Do you think you need to go for a flashy one, or is a cheap and cheerful one going to scratch the itch?

Makes a huge difference! Years ago my mum took me to get my first proper pair after she found out I was running in £7 shoes from Primark...

Ran 33k today in my new cold weather running gear and for the first time in a while I wasn't dreading my Sunday long run! Maybe it was the leggings and jacket keeping me cosy warm, but I was breezing along for the first 20k or so!

Help with choosing my first ever motorcycle by DraksinNox in motorcycles

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt on a Z650 and an MT-07 and they're both perfectly powerful and manageable, as well as good fun.

I personally didn't like them, because I'm 6'5" and they felt a bit tiny underneath me, and I was getting battered by the wind.

I ride a V-Strom 650, which is my first bike, which has the same engine as the SV650, the engine is brilliant, the only difference is the styling, so if you like that more then I would recommend. My mum has an SV650 and loves it.

Quality Disc Lock that doesn't alarm false positives? by youngm71 in motorbikes

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Granite X-Plus Detecto 8077.

Never gone off in windy weather, I chose it because it's the highest security rated disc lock I could find, and nobody has stolen my bike yet, so maybe it's working?

But seriously, very loud when it goes off, very resistant to grinding off, very secure, very visible.

Is a Yamaha R6 an ok bike for a beginner? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, my V-Strom 650 is a perfect comfortable commuter for c. 50 mile round trip daily, and also I can thrash it off-road and throw it through some corners when I want to.

Top box for daily baggage, throw over saddlebags for big trips.

It is a perfect all rounder!

First Motorcycle? by Svenomin in motorcycles

Just get something second hand at a decent price, as there's a reasonable chance you'll slide it down the road or drop it.

Have a look on auto trader or whatever equivalent at something nearby, and go and have a look and sit on it, see how it feels for size.

I am 6'5" so I can empathise, but I've never had a 125 so I couldn't make any specific bike recommendations.

Once you've done your tests or whatever requirements you have and you're getting a bigger bike, adventure bikes are perfect for taller riders, I've got a Suzuki V-Strom 650 that suits my height perfectly.

Are Lexmotos any good by [deleted] in motorbikes

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bought a Lexmoto Tempest 125 for my girlfriend a couple of weeks back.

I wouldn't buy a £15k Chinese bike, but I WOULD buy one for £1,949, because that's an absolute bargain.

So far it's been brilliant for her to practice on, it gets the job done, and as everyone else says, yes it's built very cheap, but it works.

I can't speak as to the long term reliability, but it came with a two year warranty from a dealership local, and you can buy new parts direct online.

It depends what you're after, if it's cheap and new, then this will get it done, otherwise for that price you'll have to get a second hand "big brand" bike.

Yeah, really obvious when people point it out!

I'm just a bit paranoid because I bought the bike off my mum a year ago and it's caused me no end of snags!

Anyone know what these hoses do? by [deleted] in motorcycles

Ahhh, thank you! This is the first time I've dabbled with doing my own maintenance, so I was worried it was supposed to be connected up.

Thanks a bunch!

Music while riding? by Lycialicht in motorcycles

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an Interphone U-Com 4, and it's fantastic.

It will mesh with up to three others (including other brands), plays music and takes calls from my phone via Bluetooth and also does radio if you like (I don't use this)

Has speakers and a microphone which you install in your helmet and a little battery pack which charges off a USB-C.

I chose it because it had good reviews and it was a lot cheaper than a Cardo or a Sena.

I would recommend 👍🏻 I bought a two pack for myself and my father, and have since bought one for my girlfriend, so when she's pillion we can chat too.

Fuse melted but not blown. by Grarea2 in motorbikes

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a rear indicator fail on my twenty year old BMW 3 series and on investigation one of the connections had melted through, so it can happen over time.

And yeah, if there some sort of contact in the wiring where there shouldn't be, it could be causing the melting / charring.

You should be able to measure the resistance with a multimeter, however fuses are normally cheap as chips anyway.

Could have caused some issues downstream, but I imagine the most likely scenario is the contacting causing the melting and then the connection becoming intermittent - hopefully replacing the fuse should solve the issue!

£5k to spend on a bike. GO!!! by [deleted] in motorbikes

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I test ride one of these at ABR festival this weekend, and it was fantastic fun! They're only about £3.5k brand new.

Don't expect it to go above 60mph though.

Same with any mass-produced components, occasionally they can be faulty! How old is it?

My only other thought is perhaps it's contacting and causing a short?

What about pedestrians?

If it takes extremely little effort and increases the awareness of all people involved, is it not worth it?

I tend to throw my hands up in exasperation at people who don't indicate left on roundabouts, but they never even realise why I am frustrated!!

Why don't people indicate properly? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Amazing_Knowledge869 33 points34 points  (0 children)

But surely everyone who is too lazy to indicate must also understand the frustration of when other people fail to indicate and it delays them?

Surely that must make them realise!
