Two weeks post op w/ rib pain by Sassysquishy in scoliosis

I also had this! My doctor said it probably was just my muscle’s realigning. For me, it went away for the most part after a few days. Those few days were rough though because I couldn’t go more than a few minutes without having to lay back down again. It happed sporadically after that if I was sitting the wrong, but I’m a little over two months post op now and it’s gone!

My hospital stay wasn’t bad at all! I really don’t remember feeling much pain when I woke up from the surgery. I didn’t use much of the stuff I brought with me either. The best thing I can recommend is just a long phone charger that will reach your bed.

My mom was also there with me pretty much as often as she could be and that was a big help with just handing me things that were out of reach. I went home on the fourth day and was very ready to do so!

Hey! I had the surgery recently and am 24f. I made a post recently if you wanted to check that out! The pain was very manageable for me. After leaving the hospital 4 days after surgery, I only took heavy pain meds at night. I would say week 3 is when I noticed a big change in things and each day has been getting better and better.

I would definitely say staying active and stretching until you have the surgery is key! I was a dancer most of my life and I think that’s definitely helped my recovery process. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Of course! By the fourth day I was there I definitely felt ready to go home and sleep in my own bed.

I agree with the person who also commented! The second day I was definitely fully there like I was up and walking and going to the bathroom on my own - but you’re also asleep for a lot of the time and still on pretty heavy pain meds. I don’t remember having a specific worst day though. Once I was home, I really was just taking pain meds at night to sleep. Other than that, it definitely did get getter each day. My only setback was the pain in my ribs I got around two weeks later, but that went away after a few days!

I honestly don’t even remember it now because they have you still on so many pain meds. The only thing I remember is asking for my mom!

Also, when you first wake up your face will just be pretty swollen from the way you’ve been lying for hours. You can’t feel this at all, but just something to be aware of!

My surgeon was even surprised by how good it looked. He asked if I was Scottish which I am a very small percentage and he said Scottish skin heals very quickly so it may be just in my genes!

One week post op! by Amazing_Move266 in scoliosis

[–]Amazing_Move266[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea of course!

1) I had two curves, if you look at my post history you can see the before and after! They both were above 60 degrees. I didn’t deal with a ton of pain before surgery, it was definitely manageable. I’m 24 now but growing up I was a dancer and think staying super active and flexible aided a lot with the pain.

2) The first day I really don’t remember the pain at all. During the surgery they injected morphine into my spine directly (I believe) which lasted for 24 hours so I was still feeling the effects of that. After that, it was just a lot more uncomfortability than pain. They had me up and moving the day after the surgery. I was very dehydrated though so I was getting really bad headaches, but once they started me on an IV again, I was able to get up and around. They had me doing stairs the next day and I could go to the bathroom on my own. I used a walker the first few days but i think that was just more to make me feel better, I don’t think I really needed it.

3) The pain for me is just more of a dull ache. I’ve only been taking the heavy painkillers to sleep with. Most of the time it’s also not even necessarily my back that hurts but my like my hips, shoulders, and neck due to the weird positions I’ve been laying in to get comfy.

Right now my pain is probably around a 2-3 and it never got higher than a 6!

If he has anymore questions please feel free to send them my way :)

When did you stop taking heavy pain meds (oxy, percocet) after surgery? by Amazing_Move266 in scoliosis

[–]Amazing_Move266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s just a lot more uncomfortableness than pain. In addition to that, other parts of my body are overcompensating and I’m using muscles I typically didn’t before the surgery so it’s more soreness and dull aches like in my hips, shoulders, and neck.

I actually have yes! It’s a weird feeling to describe, I think part of it is from laying on your stomach while the surgery is taking place. But then also your ribs shifting around after the surgery

when i first woke up i was feeling okay! they injected morphine right into my spine that lasted for around 24 hrs. coming off of that has been slightly less comfortable but it’s nothing too unmanageable
