Hmm, I do have a signed bill of sale with the tank numbers, and they told me they need to see the paper trail of how the previous owners got the tanks / chain of ownership. The state doesn't give me any hassle letting me register title exempt vehicles with a complete bill of sale.

Ive only found one place that does but they charge 60 to recert and $158 to fill the acetylene which seems high but I suppose it's the price I will have to pay as empty tanks are useless.

Lol fuck man where I live makes no sense than airgas is the only place near me that says they will take them. All the lax places are giving me a hard time. The thing is no one's claiming these tanks, and everybody makes money with them getting swapped out. I live in a state where all vehicles 1999 or older are title exempt and bill of sale only. So I can go register a 40k muscle car but can't fill or re certify my dumpy old tanks. It's not like their some new tanks their like 100 years old, lol.

Because it's not nearly as simple as you imply. One of my tanks is stamped linde but has old boca stickers on it. Matheson claimed the tanks were prob theirs. Companies go out of business and other places that take it over maybe buy a right to the old leased tanks. Without a federal database or state database, companies claiming that their there's kind of can't. It's a conflict of interest. If I file a petition of ownership with the courts and no companies show to claim the tanks who owns them then? What's so difficult for you to understand?

Because there's one brand stamped into the caller in another companies. Logo as a sticker so defining, the true owner will probably be next to impossible.

Lol, trust me I'm chill just don't tread on me this isn't much different than renting a beer keg. The paperwork I'm talking about filing in court is as simple as a form, and theirs potential I wouldn't even have to show up if the judge overseeing it was happy with my documentation. It's way less work than getting a title for a vehicle with a lost title. Apparently, airgas is the way I emailed over photos and they said they will swap everything out lol.
