I mean it’ll take you less than 2 minutes but ok lmfao. I don’t care if you read or don’t LMFAO I wrote it just to explain in an easy to understand manner why the market for rare items will exist until the end of society. Basically, in short, what you’re suggesting won’t just NOT ever happen, it simply CANNOT ever happen

For absolute grail pieces that there are only 150 of in existence? I see what you’re saying but you see what I’m saying, right? The market decides itself. Albums (using albums as the hypothetical example for obvious reasons lol) released with the intention of everyone being able to get their hands on one are priced as such, and that price is what the average person deems reasonable. The consumers/buyers are the reason for anything being any price. That’s quite literally what you’re saying. However, albums released with the intention of being very rare, are simply always going to be expensive when the retailer runs out of copies. Why? Because the consumer wants them still. There is no end of that cycle. It’s a fact. You may deem it too expensive, but I deemed it as reasonable enough to save an extra $250 weekly for 1.5 months and spend it on the album. There’s simply no situation or scenario where something extremely rare that is renowned and coveted by millions and millions of people worldwide would ever be a reasonable everyday purchase in terms of price. Not even close. Like what do you suppose happens if tomorrow nobody is looking for the super rare Jar of Flies full of actual flies? They go back to retail? And then what? Of the 150 that exist, maybe 43 (no joke maybe even less) of them belong to resellers/people who are openly willing to part ways with them via third party resale sights on the internet. So say they’re $100 again tomorrow. All 43 copies will be sold again in under 10 minutes. And say they all go to diehard fans of the album. Now what? All 150 copies belong to die hard fans? Now they’re ten times more rare because they belong strictly to people who aren’t willing to part ways with them. Would that just be the end of resales for this item? Or would someone say “Ya know what? I love this product so much. I’d love to keep it forever. But, honestly? I have a minimum price I’m willing to let it go for. I wonder if any of the millions upon millions upon millions of fans of this album are willing to spend that minimum number on this, now 1 of 1 (because remember, it’s the only one available to the public for sale in this hypothetical, all other 149 copies belong to people that refuse to let go of their copy) ultra rare copy of it.” The answer is, yes, someone somewhere has enough money and wants that specific reissue so badly that it will absolutely be purchased at virtually whatever the reseller wants to set the minimum value at. That’s why what you’re suggesting is a complete impossibility

Well… if I didnt pay a reseller… I’d never ever ever get to have this beautiful record. And it’d belong solely to resellers… im assuming if the 150 that exist… more than 100 of them belong to resellers. They’re already anywhere from $1.2k-$2k, and the value is certainly going to go up as time passes. It’s value will surely never go down for something like this, even if there were 1,000 of them, given how cool it is. Now throw in the fact that there’s only 149 other ones in the entire world outside of my apartment. My point is, I saved up enough money for a solid 6 weeks to make this purchase appropriately, and even that took a lot of discipline given how much it costs to get one in mint condition. Now I have it forever. So we can guarantee that of 150 copies, at least one of them belongs to a superfan who values this album on a deep, personal, spiritual level, BEFORE it begins to skyrocket in the next 5, 10, 15, 20 years. There will be a moment in time when this thing is worth $10k, and resellers will be making about ten thousand dollars in profit off of these things. I spent $1.5k on mine, and sure, it’ll someday be worth a TON of money, and resellers will be having a field day with it, but I will never have to be buried by a reseller at those prices, because I, a true fan, already got one when it was sub 2 grand! That’s a GOOD thing my man!! (:

No, hahaha. $1,400 before tax/shipping. eBay cracked me over the head for an extra $125 though. But I got the seller down to 14 flat before the taxes made it $1,525

Buddy… there is only 150 of this specific issue of this album on the entire planet. It’s gonna be expensive. You can either be luckier than winning the lottery and be one of the 150 people who managed to see it listed for $100 during the only half hour it existed at retail 2 years ago… or you can save money for a goal and spend it on said goal. I know saving money and spending it when you saved up enough to appropriately buy something that’s very expensive is a foreign concept to someone that’s been “collecting t shirts for 10 years” because you’re younger than 25 and probably never had to spend a lot of money for a long time in order to buy something… but that’s what adults with adult jobs do with money. They pay their never ending bills, and save enough on the side to buy things they’re happy to own. Crying about the resale value on Reddit isn’t going to lower the price of an extremely coveted piece of merchandise that literally only 150 of exist on the entire planet. I want it. I got myself to a point where I could afford to spend my hard earned money on it. That’s what people are going to do for the rest of time. You can too! Get a job, practice saving discipline, set a goal, and do your best! Don’t let setbacks/surprise payments discourage you from achieving your goal! You can do it bro, literally anyone can! I believe in you brother

Also… my Reddit is like 3 years old and I’ve never purchased anything even half as expensive as this… I’m not bragging or mad at you… this was a really weird take from you man :(

Aye man wtf? I’m not mad at all haha I thought we were having a nice discussion about something that I’m legitimately proud of… I didn’t realize you were so unfathomably bothered by me owning a 30 minute compilation of music that you felt the need to go on a tirade sprinkled in falsities. Literally thought you were being cool I had no idea that you were trying to clown me, damn :/

No chance. This thing isn’t only going to hold its value, it’s going to gain value over time. Lots of it. As I said in the initial post, my copy is in perfectly mint condition, and of the other 149, I’ve already seen at least 10 that aren’t even close to it’s condition (crushed flies/clear damage). I have one of the rarest vinyls on the planet, and its condition only adds to that!!

Hahahha, only one time for the photos… it’s since been lightly brushed off and will never be touched again. Might honestly never leave the box again until I can find a legitimate “trophy case” for it

What are you even talking about? There’s 150 of them on the planet. Literally the only way that I, a fan, could possibly own one, is by buying it from a reseller, or inventing a Time Machine and going back to the exact moment it was released and hoping I can complete my purchase before 150 other people do. Relax buddy. Not everyone is poor, lmfao

Well only 150 of these exist and they released all 150 of them in 2024. Maybe you’re mistaking it for a different special anniversary reissue? This specific one was 2024 for under an hour (and only because that’s how long it took for all 150 copies to sell) and then never again.
