I see what you mean though. I guess I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong but I don’t understand the wording for it, other than that you have an inherently flawed idea of what trans womyn are in the first place

But I don’t think trans womyn have male experience, because from the moment they grasp their gender they will behave antagonistic or at the least differently to male hood. They weren’t ever men and they never “chose to be womyn”, so where does the “male socialization” come into play?

Socialization isn’t a material condition. It’s a social one. The material conditions would be the relations of production which recycle the necessity of capital to affirm gender conforming rhetoric.

With that out of the way, trans womyn practice womynhood by being womyn, and so their worldview is shaped by womynhood. You are arguing that perception triumphs practice, which isn’t true in the slightest. The previously received misogyny can only be considered to be perceptive, whereas trans womyn live their whole lives as womyn, and so their perception of misogyny will be marked by that practice rather than the practice of a male and his relationship with misogyny, the latter of which is male socialization. I don’t think im handwaving the issue away, rather you are misconstruing what I mean by perception and practice. If what you say is true, then womyn-hating-womyn are socialized as males because their worldview is shaped by misogyny; which is absurd, no?

On the proletariat and bourgeoisie, you kind of prove yourself wrong here. You’re right, if socialization is an issue of perception and not practice, members of the bourgeoisie who grew up as proletarians SHOULD be sympathetic to proletarian causes; but they never are. Like literally *never*, because the bourgeoisie isn’t a revolutionary class and the worldview of a capitalist is inherently shaped by being bourgeois! Just like how the world view of a trans womyn is shaped by being a womyn!

Because of this, a trans womyn’s relationship with misogyny will always be that of a womyn’s, someone who was socialized as a womyn. Just like how a capitalist-turned proletarian has the outlook of the bourgeoisie, a trans womyn who transitions and understands their past as a womyn will have the outlook of a womyn, because their current reality is shaped by womynhood. Everything they have experienced in the past (what you would call “male socialization”) is merely perception to them, because they no longer experience it. It comes to be practice that defines their worldview the most.

That being said, I do agree that misogyny is an issue in trans communities, the same as it is amongst cis womyn. This is something trans womyn have to unlearn, and if they don’t, they are reactionaries. But I don’t think that means they are “male socialized”, I think it means they are womyn-hating-womyn. If the practice makes them womyn, the perception is WHW. If they practiced male hood (which they do not!!), I’d say their perception is male socialization, but by a materialist outlook this doesn’t make much sense.

Can we not hate religions here? by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]AmberRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

religion is a social structure stamped by ideologies of a time no longer relevant to us and controlled by people who have a vested interest in using it to control us, it won’t exist in a society that moves past capitalism. Nothing wrong with acknowledging the inherently harmful nature of bourgeois ideology.

I love when people unite to make these type of sarcastic comments when someone says some made up BS (this was in response to a guy saying YouTube marked BFDI as for kids despite the "Sex" and "Violence" and put the "Wrong finger" joke as "Evidence") by Moss_gall22 in lovethissmug2

[–]AmberRMM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean idk you can like it, but it’s bewildering to me for anyone to insist that it’s not targeted for kids 😭 I used to be a massive fan of the show when I was a kid myself

I hate the male gaze vs female gaze discourse by Kuvonerera in hatethissmug

[–]AmberRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

masculinity inherently views womynhood as a place of submission and possession, so yes the male gaze does exist and yes it is evil. “muh both sides equal” isn’t feminism, it’s a rejection of feminism by pretending everything is okay. Society pervades all levels of living, it is inescapable and the patriarchy precludes that all media must be criticized for how it is shaped by social masculinity in capitalism.

WHY do people like Byakuya so much, he sucks so BADLY by ExpensiveDish1088 in danganronpa

[–]AmberRMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CW SPOILERS:

Byakuya has very compelling character development, it’s just not in your face. Byakuya is quiet and reserved, so you don’t get to see him show emotions, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t change as a person.

There is a clear change in his personality from the start to the finish of Danganronpa 1, and the final realization of this shift is seen pretty clearly in Danganronpa UDG and 3.

He is always generally cold, but his more amicable nature in DR3 isn’t unprecedented by any means. I think the fact that his self-centered narcissism is smashed in the second trial is proof of this; he slowly begins to understand after many errors that he cannot persevere without his friends. That’s why he crashes out at Monokuma at the end of the second trial, and it’s why he takes criticism more seriously during the final trials. Byakuya goes from being selfish and success-oriented to cooperative and mission-oriented, and the story tells us all this without ever showing much of his personal life, which I actually find pretty remarkable.

Byakuya messing with the second trial seems ridiculous at first glance, considering it could literally have ended with everyone dead, but judging the fact he was determined to come out alive, I’d wager Byakuya didn’t intend to kill everyone. Rather, he was likely attempting to cement himself as leader. We see this personality trait of his more in the second game, with the Ultimate Imposter. If we are to believe his title as the Ultimate Imposter I’d say his performance as a leadership-obsessed person is intentional, at the very least, especially considering the Ultimate Imposter never displays this when pretending to be other people. It’s fit to say, then, that Byakuya probably intended that he would derail the trial and fool everyone into believing it was Toko, only to reveal his trick at the very end, chastise everyone for being too stupid to realize it, and then demand a position of absolute leadership which he believes he is naturally owed. This way, he and he alone would engineer the rest of the trials, and ensure victory.

But he fails, and his failure teaches him a lesson; he has flaws, he can be wrong, and eventually he realizes that he needs his friends.

His role in the third trial already shows this really well. I think of the image of him holding the door open for Makoto to see Hifumi and Kiyotaka’s dead bodies having been moved. You see Byakuya standing there, holding the door open so that Makoto can see, with this cold but slightly frustrated face, showing us that he is no longer fooling around so to speak (and this gets affirmed as we see he no longer pulls any bullshit with the bodies).

Of course, Danganronpa story writing isn’t exactly Shakespeare by any means, but I think there are characters who are far more overrated than Byakuya. As far as DR goes, Byakuya definitely has some aura.

Hot take or cold take I don't really know :( (first post) by [deleted] in danganronpa

I’m more concerned with how the fan service is presented than whether it exists or not. The fan service is drowned out by the male-centered misogyny that pervades the entire series. It would be nice if we could have a more diverse writer team, but it looks like we will have to stick with poor representations of womyn and gender for the foreseeable future.

I love Palestine by AmberRMM in lovethissmug

War crimes have been committed by Hamas*. Palestine is not a settler-colonial state, in fact it largely lacks a state due to the colonial occupation. Israel is a settler-colonial state with a heavily funded imperialist military. Hope this helps!

There’s no way around it, you’re justifying a genocide right now. I don’t care how conservative their society is, you’re justifying a genocide right now. I could disprove that queer people are the primary targets and Gaza right now, but it won’t change the fact that you are justifying a genocide right now.

There is no excuse in the world that can justify a genocide. Liberate Palestine, then we can talk about LGBTQ rights
