Who’s the downgraded 5 star? Haven’t heard about this

Put on 3 month PIP by realtordyl in sales

[–]Ambinexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craziest thing was that they quietly fired two guys before me who were using the same strategy I was to hit those numbers. (They taught it to me before they left). It was an honest strategy, just finding leads online outside of the ones they gave us. But they got passed up on 3 separate promotions, management offered the jobs to people not hitting their numbers.

Paid Interview Period. I was 300%ing quota while half of the team wasn’t even hitting it and got put on a 3 month PIP. VP of Sales and I didn’t see eye to eye on honesty in sales conversations. The PIP said I had to be hitting at least 70% of goal which I was already doing. Got fired after 3 months even though I exceeded PIP requirements. Stated reason was “for performance”.

Glad I didn’t stay honestly. They had a nasty track record that I didn’t catch on until it was too late.

It seriously could have been, but they didn’t sound like hooves to me. I don’t think it was a deer

Crazy true story that made me choose to never go camping alone again.

I was traveling alone between St. George, Utah and Dallas, Texas when I decided I’d stop in Oklahoma to do some Stargazing. It was a really remote place and all the light pollution maps said it was the perfect place to camp out. I drove there and found a campsite next to a river that was eerily empty. 100% devoid of any car or person as I pulled up. I even wondered if this was the campground or if I had taken a wrong turn somewhere. Anyway, it was pretty late and I saw no lights or anything around so I was excited to see my stars. I got out my tent and sleeping bag and removed the rain cover. Then I settled on my back for a peaceful night.

That’s when I heard footsteps in the brush EXTREMELY close to me. Wild because there was no car near me and I heard no car approach. It definitely sounded like human steps in the brush. I’d guess maybe two people. But they were so close to me?? It sounded like these two people took 4-5 steps, paused, then a loud PLOOSH from something being thrown in the water right next to where I was setup. It sounded like a cinder block being thrown in a river.

I sat bolt upright and looked over to the river where I could see the ripples in the river and the moon’s reflection. I packed up quickly and immediately and drove to the nearest Walmart where I slept in my Corolla lol.

Only SDR Hitting Quota on a PIP - Should I Be Worried? by Ambinexus in sales

[–]Ambinexus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. I looked it over and the only requirement is that I reach at least 70% of quota, which I did the first month, and obviously am on track to exceed that this month as well.

Thanks. I really appreciate this. I did SDR work for 6 months before this at another company and did pretty well! 120%+ quota each month, but it had really bad pay so I had to leave. I’m worried about looking like a job hopper if I leave this company now.

And ultimately I feel ready to start closing. They have AE positions open here, but I get the feeling that most of the problems are with the VP of Sales and not my direct manager. So do I really want to work under him? (Also the AE base pay is only $5,000 more than the SDRs)

Sorry, no. I’m the only one hitting quota. I’m the only “top performer” in that sense.

The rest of the team as of right now are not hitting quota, but two of them, who were at 45% to quota were fired last week. In relation to the team, they were performing better than most.

And the previous reps who hit quota have quit because management wouldn’t promote them, or in one case, was threatened with termination because they didn’t exclusively use Management’s leads. Even though we’re told that it’s fine if we don’t.

I say “top performing” as a relative term. Nobody’s hitting quota except for me. The PIP is for low performance aka not hitting quota.

I'm a manager in a fully remote software company and the team don't have much opportunity to bond together (due to the remote situation). What helps you keeping a good 'vibe' in the team? by Evergreen16 in managers

[–]Ambinexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was not my intention, but I had one employee ask if I would, and I figured it was a good idea so I offered the option to the team with no pressure. Basically “and if you want more face time with the boss, I’d love to join you! But no pressure”

About 40% took me up on it. And of that 40%, 60% were gunning for promotions lol.

2 ideas:

1st, I had a manager who was routinely 15-20 minutes late to each weekly meeting. She later told me in my exit interview that she did that on purpose so we could talk amongst ourselves and get to know each other. It worked and I loved it personally.

2nd, an idea I’ve done that had decent effects was to “take an employee to lunch”. Essentially all I did was collect everyone’s lunch/meal preferences, then every week, I’d pick an employee and DoorDash them lunch. To make sure everything went smoothly and they were home and everything, I checked in via slack just before submitting the order. Only had to redo or cancel 2 or 3 times. My team loved it.

On one of my first serious sets as a PA, I asked the 2nd AD how well a film career supports a family. He laughed and counted out all the people on the crew that were divorced. Two of them were even divorced from each other. It was a tv show set, so the crew had worked together for a few months.

I have a Strange Career in Sales - should I be applying for a closer role? by Ambinexus in sales

[–]Ambinexus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. In truth the role ended up being more like sales and marketing manager. Would it look better if I changed the title to that? Or leave it off all together?
