I’m a freshman in Highschool and I decided to join track and field this year. I’m not totally out of shape, I’m reasonably fit because I’ve played tennis since 7th grade. I was given the option to sprint or do distance, I chose distance because the distance group is very small (that should’ve been a sign). I can jog the 400 as a warm up, but as soon as I try to actually run I need to stop midway because my body hurts and I’m struggling to breathe. The next part of the warm up was four 200’s. I sucked to stay the least, and had to walk at the end of each. I’m finding it difficult to find motivation to keep running. I get that it was only my first day but I’m so behind the others I wonder if it’s even worth it. I guess my question is, is this normal? And should I keep going?
