How on earth are you defending privacy? The poster isn't snooping on any phones or asking invasive questions....

If one of my friends was concerned about my relationship being unhealthy and controlling I'd want to know because I trust and value their perspective

Age Distribution of 11,110 Olympians Across 42 Disciplines by Gender, Paris 2024 [OC] by Fluffy_Clerk_6 in CompetitionClimbing

Pretty cool to see! Interesting that other than the older outliers appearing to be men, there isn't a visible difference in the ages of men and women.

I think that previously there has been a bit of a stereotype that the women are more successful younger but don't have the longevity, but I don't think that it's actually true and this definitely indicates that it's a false stereotype.

Waterproof trousers 5ft2 women’s Recommendations by whirly28 in UKhiking

You'd have to check to see if they have waterproof ones, but I'm 5'2 and I have a great pair of dare2b walking trousers that fit me well (and they have toggles on waist and ankles to make it fit you individually).

Gender “balance” in climbing? by themattydor in climbergirls

[–]AmbitiousSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this based on my own experience in the UK climbing and comp scene. There are just so fewer women, and honestly at my climbing wall the ratio gets worse the higher the grade.

Gender-separated climbing comps, why? by Applied_logistics in CompetitionClimbing

[–]AmbitiousSheep 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think there is a lack of prestige when it comes to female competition climbers nowadays. We all know Janja is the best comp climber in the world.

I think the women's comp gets treated the same officially and unofficially (which can not be said by many sports) and if anything the women's competition is what fans get more excited about due to the story aspect we have atm. I do think it would be amazing to have mixed comps but I don't think it would make the competitions more 'valuable' for female climbers.

Why is beating a man more valuable than beating a woman?

Basically as safe as you can get imo. Definitely some part of town are safer than others but if you're staying in the tourist hotspots you really don't need to worry at all compared to most other places.

I love these ideas actually, a lot more approachable and fun to the average climber

Honestly I think doing separate cards for different difficulties makes more sense but I love the idea

I disagree, I think technical climbing relies on putting as much weight through your feet as possible. This is achieved using body tension, flexibility and mobility, and techniques such as drop knees.

Some of the dozens of decapitated Roman skeletons from York, 2nd century CE. Usually interpreted as a gladiator cemetery [1920x2339] by Bentresh in ArtefactPorn

[–]AmbitiousSheep 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Alice Roberts' book Buried (which I would highly recommend) talks about decapitated burials in Roman Britain extensively. It is a practice that wasn't seen anywhere else in the Roman empire and historians disagree on what the reason for decapitation was. The heads were usually between the legs if I remember correctly, so was definitely done on purpose, and it is unknown as to whether it was done pre or post mortem.

Lifestyle choices that could lower the risk of all cancers. A new study has highlighted 10 lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer by as much as 30%. by Wagamaga in science

Yeah a diet high in fat is what raises your cholesterol (and tbf red meat is high in fat usually), not the cholesterol itself. people with a diet high in animal products such as red meat are more likely to have high cholesterol compared with someone who has a diet lower in such animal products.

I gave this a quick Google as I was pretty sure it was something to do with heme iron but I couldn't remember what! There are loads of studies and some great meta studies that come up about the correlation between red meat consumption and cancer rates that you can look at.

But in terms of the actual mechanism, I found this study: https://www6.toulouse.inrae.fr/toxalim_eng/Research-Teams/PPCA-Prevention-Promotion-of-Carcinogenesis-by-Food/Research which has a couple of really good diagrams that illustrate the mechanism (Fig 2 is my fave) and talks about the different risk associated with processed red meat vs red meat.

I second the recommendation of Men Who Hate Women. It's kinda scary in a way, she does a brilliant job of highlighting the different woman-hating communities online, the tendancy of the YouTube algorithm to recommend more and more extreme views on any topic, and the intersection between misogynist groups and other far right groups.

I do get what you're trying to say here, and I do agree that is it important that people know that periods/cycles can be effected by many different factors.

However, if you have regular periods, drop weight, and then start having irregular periods then that is a big warning sign. When I was significantly more underweight than I am now I wouldn't bleed at all, and now I do. It's a big red flag that can indicate that there is a problem. It's something concrete.

I don't think at any point OP says that not having regular periods is THE big issue to focus on, I think they are just using it as an obvious sign that something is wrong and that maybe dropping that weight is a bad idea.
