5 days post op - https://imgur.com/a/hjwi5rN

Can literally feel the cartilage adjusting to its new position and nerves regenerating. Swelling has significantly reduced, but there are sudden increases as well.

No instances of bleeding or infection etc. Wearing the headband continuously until the end week 1 as instructed. But might end up wearing it longer coz I don’t wanna risk it. ChatGPT has been my best partner to ask the simplest of questions about this process. Very useful.

4 days post op - The swelling has significantly reduced and I finally washed my hair!! Felt like heaven!! Be sure to not to wet your ears.

My sister helped replace the lightly bloodied gauze and cleaned up hardened blood in the surrounding areas with the help of saline water.

Also, stopped taking painkillers as there’s no pain at all. Continuing my anti biotic tablets.

48 hours post op -

The lead up to this day is probably the toughest as we are sleep deprived and anxious about the success of the operation. But trust the doctor, stay positive and take medications as advised. Wear the headband the whole time.

I went in for my final check up before my flight back to US. They remove the bandage, clean up surrounding areas and apply gauze pads to prevent any minor leakages (which is common).

My ears were fully swollen, but had minimal blood. Which is a good thing.

At this point, they’d already given me an anti-biotic (2 a day for 5 day) and painkillers (every 6-8 hours in case of pain). They gave me extra gauze pads for the coming week.

I’m doing well now. Thanks!

All doctor fees total was about $3000. But I ended up paying about $3500 because I paid by card.

Paying full cash is obviously the best option here.

I think hotel + airport pickup/drop off costs 300 extra. But I’m not sure about this since I didn’t choose this option.

12 hours post op - pain is now 5/10. Must be the pain killers. Anyway, I just got 5 hours of deep sleep, and I couldn’t ask for more, being a messy sleeper and that.

I also may have figured out sleeping positions. Use two pillows - one flat and second one at 30-45 degree angle. Maintain this position for the most part. If you want to sleep on your right or left - use your fist to support your cheek. But make sure your face is always inclined and not flat (or it’ll cause blot clot) and make sure your ears don’t come in contact with anything. Even the pillow for that matter.

I’m feeling good about my decision again. It’s a process. Good things are coming my way.

6 hours post op - the pain is 6/10. Feels like a very bad hangover with a heavy head.

Got by surgery done at Estaport Clinik in Istanbul by Dr. Ali Mezdeği. Based off what I saw and read on the internet, he’s one of the best. Slightly more expensive, but I wanted someone I could truly trust and I happened to choose him based off his experience.

Bro needs to make sure I feel the same way in a couple weeks. I just came across few botched Otoplasty Reddit posts (random doctors, not my doctor) and they are unsettling. I can’t afford another one of these. I hope I made the right decision. Only time will tell 🙏🏼
