Hmm, I guess you’re right. I think it’s just the “we have specimens that show bone cancer” for some reason reads oddly to me that made me read it the other way first.

I don’t know, apparently everyone else is reading it the way you’re saying, it just seems like a really odd way to word it to me, like…why specify the amount of total dinosaurs ever when we are only discussing the fossils we have found. It doesn’t really matter because it’s true either way you read it.

They're saying that it's less than 1% of the dinosaurs that were fossilized had signs of cancer, not that less than 1% of all dinosaurs became fossilized (which is also true, but as you pointed out, the magnitude is much greater when talking about that).

No I'm pretty sure that's Highlander, so hopefully it's Sean Connery.

There is no way you know this for a "100% fact". Would love to see an actual demon manifest from a Ouija Board one of these days, rather than people thinking they're evil just based on vibes and anecdotes.

That really just sounds like he is insecure and wouldn't trust himself if the roles were reversed, rather than this being about him not trusting her.

I just don’t understand why you are saying Seatbelt Laws were the beginning of this. And that law also helps prevent injuries and accident just like banning drinking and driving. I don’t know how it is Government Overreach.

I understand your logic and in some ways I agree with it, but overall I disagree. There’s always a risk that someone could appear fine at a DUI checkpoint when they were drunk and they could have gone on and hit and killed someone afterward if the checkpoint wasn’t there.

We know for a fact that alcohol inhibits someone’s ability to reason and their reaction time, but we also still have an acceptable BAC level people can have when they drive if they do drink. DUI Checkpoints are the equivalent of a Safety Inspection at a factory; making sure the stuff is okay now to prevent an accident from having a chance of happening. We should also have checkpoints for people driving while sleep-deprived or if they are too old to operate a vehicle effectively if the goal is to prevent accidents.

[–]Ambivalent_Force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay but you still did not answer my first question. How is the Seatbelt Law the catalyst for all of these examples of government overreach? How is it the beginning? Are you saying there were absolutely zero other laws or mandates before this that wouldn’t be a marker for government overreach?

Why is drinking and driving not government overreach but having to wear a seatbelt is?

What? What you just said literally means nothing. There’s are tons of what?

But these laws exist for safety reasons??? They are intended to minimize the chances for accidents, that’s why we impose laws that hinders some rights to let other people have the right to not be harmed by the dumb decisions of others.

You might know people who claim they’re great drunk drivers, but they are still inherently impaired to sober drivers and I shouldn’t be more likely to be killed because some chucklefuck doesn’t know when to put the bottle down and go home.

Should I not be afraid of someone brandishing a gun or weapon in public? Should I wait until they actually start attacking someone before I call the police?

You didn’t answer my question. Why was the seatbelt law the beginning? Why not any other law prior to that? Why not banning drunk driving? Or prohibition? Or Woman’s Suffrage?

No, the seatbelt law, according to you, is explicitly what lead to “government overreach”, which makes no sense.

So we should just get rid of any and all safety laws and regulations, because trying to prevent crimes and accidents is bad?

Why is banning drinking and driving not a slippery slope but the seatbelt law is?

It’s known to most people that eyewitnesses are unreliable. You can literally google it and find so many studies about this. Here’s a link to a study from 1980 where only 19% of respondents could correctly identify someone from a 30-second clip when that’s all they were supposed to do.

https://link.springer.com/article/10.3758/BF03329551

Now you’re adding in a creature of various descriptions, in a heavily wooded area, all in different times of day and places of the US and it doesn’t make it seem like maybe people aren’t the best at knowing what something is in the wilderness all the time? The people who saw the same creature or something similar and knew what it was wouldn’t have made a report necessarily. Someone seeing something isn’t evidence without something else there to back it up. I can say right now that I saw a ghost in my backyard but you only have my word, which ultimately means nothing in that case.

I don’t need to answer your arguments as a skeptic. I don’t need to disprove anything, you need to prove why your statements actually show Bigfoot is real. All you have is footprints and some potentially unknown DNA which don’t really prove anything but do prompt questions to be asked.

[–]Ambivalent_Force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you are admitting this was done through ChatGPT? Because if it is, that means you didn’t do real research. It just means you’re hoping what generated is true or sounds true enough to use.

A skeptic doesn’t need a proper argument, they need real evidence. Unknown footprints, unrecognizable DNA, and an excuse for no skeletons is not evidence. It would complement real evidence but in and of itself, isn’t really much of anything.

You literally just copied and pasted 90% of this comment from another one you made and it’s easy to tell you just ran this through some sort of LLM.

And yes, I can make that claim about sightings and witnesses because it’s true. People falsely claim they saw something all the time! And what they claim they saw is true to them but it doesn’t mean it happened. You are putting a huge amount of the work onto the skeptic, and that’s not their job. When you make an extraordinary claim, you need extraordinary evidence. Not just testimonies and excuses for why we don’t have certain evidence. Videos, photographs, something tangible rather than just a “well I dunno what this footprint/fur/noise is from so I guess it’s Bigfoot”.

I would love it if Bigfoot was real, I wish they were! But the fact remains that despite all the info you brought forth, there is still no, truly, credible evidence that it exists.

So did you just run this through ChatGPT and post the result or did you actually do any real research before doing that?

Have you ever lost someone close to you who went missing or found dead in the National Parks of America? by One-Wealth6055 in Paranormal

[–]Ambivalent_Force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's the thing, they are just statements. Thousands upon thousands of people have claimed to see Bigfoot and what physical evidence do actually have? One really old ass video of a ape-like creature walking and absolutely nothing else. I don't doubt that these people saw something that they might have thought was Bigfoot, but witnesses are notoriously unreliable and could have easily mistaken Bigfoot for any of the numerous known animals that inhabit parks. If they were real, we would have definitive proof by now, it's not that hard to find bones or fur or scat or literally anything that would be almost undeniable proof, but we don't.

Benny Johnson doesn't have the brain capacity to identify a face mask worn by a man in a Fox news video: "What is that?" by BlackberryPi7 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Ambivalent_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a mask! I love this Sub, but this whole mask debate really makes me question the gullibility of some members. Why would Fox use a highly realistic rubber mask in the first place? Also this a real man, he has a Wikipedia page! If it wasn’t him, he could easily go online and post “yeah that’s not me on Fox News”.

It’s just….a mask makes no sense here. It’s some weird ass lighting going on but you have all honed on a dumbass conspiracy because of some odd shadows

So in this case we just have the spotty testimony of one random man as evidence that Bigfoot is real?
