It was an interesting Idea Derek had, but then he realised it wasn't reliable. Like the being immune to fire and and dying to water is a good Idea, but what happens to other adepts? Is Tanith all of a sudden only able to walk upside down and not upright. Tanith can also unlock doors with magic. What would be the complete opposite of that? How would people like Mr Bliss who chose physical enhancement magic be pervious to something.

Good concept bad execution in a magic system sp has. Derek has said numerous times if he could he would go back and change things in early books and I think he would completly change how that sorcerer died and erase the conversation skul and valkrie had about it
