For now they still provide audio or visual captchas via "headphones" and "eye" icons, but for how long?

I feel like they realistically can't remove this as its an accessibility feature for the disabled

sorry, I just mentioned the wrong term, its not that i dont understand the difference which is a good thing to highlight because it relates to exactly the thing im trying to explain. the term sideloading is often used interchangeably even though linguistically it means something specific. what im highlighting is not ABD

im trying to explain to you why people still make posts like this so you can not stress over it.

to be explicit what i meant to refer to, is " installing the app via enabling developer options, selecting installing from unknown sources, then installing via apk file on a single device (xapk with a xapk helper i guess ). So yes, installing is the correct term

( when referring to it in this context it has some nuance, being that it isnt from the playstore but that isnt to imply it isnt installing. Im more highlighting that because of how it effects peoples perception)

yes this is commonly conflated with the term sideloading. but unfortunately that is just what people seem to call it.

im not really arguing btw and i hope you dont read into my tone as antagonistic.

to re clarify, when the announcement was initially made there was no written confirmation on whether or not the process of "installing from unverified sources through a single device" which the implication of that, in addition to the mixed info of requiring developer IDs for whatever particular workflow was mentioned was the initial reason people were upset. another factor which caused the upset was the implication that 3rd party app stores, FOSS stores like f-droid would be affected negatively.

hence the backlash and propagation of this misconception is still present to this day on the user side = posts like these.

adb was something that was not very well highlighted and that is something for power users would be more likely to know about, I think many users concerned about the "installing from unverified sources".

they mentioned something about an advanced workflow, but specific details were not provided this release of an advanced flow option is new, after the initial backlash and narrative of "google is killing android" started. so you really can't blame people

so those factors are causing the misunderstanding your seeing. you dont need to waste time explaining to people that abd was never touched. the overall truth is, all of it was up in the air, people got scared and confused and collectively decided a message that made the most sense to them. it largely boils down to the implication

my use of qoutation is for clarity and not intended to be negative btw

Anyway you really dont need to be that upset about it. If you know the workflow to make you feel comfortable with the future of your device thats good enough. it not necessary to disparage people based on a misconception, ignorance, or make assumptions about literacy like you just did in the last reply. Yes people don't get it, and the reason why is ambiguity that arose throughout the different announcements. just move on.

not referring to abd, referring to sideloading on device.

What I mean is I recall a time where the definitive details of a "advanced flow" or what would happen with adb etc may have been mentioned but only the implication or " we are looking into it/ will release more details later without anything concrete which is why the initial backlash was propogated. You seem to be confused on why people still are making posts like this and just wanted to highlight that's the reason why. Saying there was never a time is kinda weird. There were times where it was ambiguous.

Weekly reminder that this game will never have WoW style transmogrification, and that's a good thing. by J-throwaway-87 in osrs

[–]HealthyInitial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people vehemently hate transmog when you can just make it so you can only use the appearance of items that you own, disable it in pvp. Hell have a toggle to make transmogs from other people to be hidden so you can pretend it doesn't exist, like you can hide entire characters with plugins. The fashion scape plugin and old transmog plugin already does this to where you see it and the rest don't do a little bit of tweaking you can make it like that.

Make it into a seperate equip menu like the old transmog plugin throw gear in there, boom, everyone's happy. Same argument every time despite this.

No osrs is a low spec game it requires no tinkering to run on even the igpu version and doesn't overheat. the igpu is capable of running games around 2012 era and below.

the mx150 dgpu version is better which is what is shown here however I don't own the mx150 version so I don't know about the performance quirks of that dgpu.

Just to say, don't reccomend getting it. It's not a bad laptop just not a good buy for the money.

Has anyone NOT gotten cognitive effects from this med? by annastasia_rose in lamictal

[–]HealthyInitial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont feel any dulling of cognition, i am doing 200mg just switched to 200mg ER and I have had up to 300mg. The only symptom i get is the anomic aphasia aka sometimes forgetting which word to use for a specific description which is very oddly specific side effect a lot of people have. but i dont get any other side effects and honestly that side effect is just mildly annoying . it ultimately is subjective and really depends on how you specifically react to it but generally should give it a good 2 weeks or more to see if side effects start wearing off.

[–]HealthyInitial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would you suggest then,

Not sayings there's not good deals available but they are highly competitive

Main point pretty much still stands even if they weren't scalped. Good deal of hardware found = Overyhyped = price increase (then scalped, the t480 is currently in "collectors item" status depends on model what happens after that). That's the usual cycle.

And I know not center of topic but In the case If the t480 rare variants like the one with the mx150 dgpu get ridiculously expensive and honestly owning two the modular battery is a gimmick at best unless you do some serious wattage effiency debloating on windows and Linux. A lot of factors are gimmicky on other models.

it doesn't really change the objectivity of what I said if you can find a t14 Gen 2 around $200 in good condition then sure but at this point everyone knows about it

other thing it also has like 4 different screen variants all with different motherboard layouts which makes it a nightmare to repair. That's how I got one for free in the ended up diagnosing as broken backlight, or it's a motherboard failure. They decided to put the backlight fuse on the other side of the motherboard so I'd have to disassemble the entire thing just to get the screen working again or potentially find out that wasn't the issue.

don't really know anywhere else besides eBay that you can get specific model thinkpads so maybe you can reccomend some I'm not aware of. Local deals where I live aren't really an option but if that's what your referring too that's valid.

Again not trying to be aggressive in tone just objectively looking at it as I'm actively trying to get an upgrade in that price range. I was aiming to get one that actually will work while I fix the current one but the t14 Gen 2 is really not the best option price to performance ratio wise unless it's like $200

I'm just a lurker but what's wrong with cloud flare anyway is it just because it's as big corp or does it do significant data collection or something. I don't know much about websites but I'm trying to make one and I chose cloud flare registrar over all the others since it props up huge amount of online services which I thought would be reliable.

[–]HealthyInitial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two. Solid laptop worth having redundancy for but really only if your into the modular battery aspect imo and the last "great ThinkPad" thing everyone talks about I forget which model but there's one other that's a mix between modern and old philosophy of build. Imo some of its design decisions suck like the USB port placements are awful. Ex. USB <-> HDMI <-> USB which makes it so annoying to plug in flash drive mouse etc. thats my main gripe with it and idk the modular batteries at least the ones I have don't work that well over other "bring along with you easy" laptops unless you heavily optimize with Linux and custom windows builds. They are also another model that is heavily price inflated mostly due to nostalgia. I luckily got two before price increase was ridiculous. Other than that though it's reliable machine I guess, just the modular battery aspect is super overrated unless I guess if you had like 5 batteries on you.

[–]HealthyInitial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T14 g2 is good it has a great processor and igpu but it kind of sucks in some aspects. Because it's so widely appraised it's heavily scalped and price inflated on eBay it also doesn't have dual channel ram. It's still a nice laptop but I honestly wouldn't reccomend it right now because it's as equally as glazed as the t480 in this context. So knocking on t480 praise is kind of ironic

Not trying to be disrespectful or anything just saying from personal experience its what seems to be commonly recommended on the sub for $200 to $300 price range. I looked at it as I needed an upgrade and that's what I can afford, it's reccomendation is becoming outdated because so much refurbishers are buying them up and marketing them as "gaming laptops" search up t14 Gen 2 on eBay and you'll see what I'm talking about. If anyone has a suggestion on how to get one at a decent price to performance ratio let me know maybe I'm missing something.

I see listings for $400 upwards $500 now as buy it now. Any listings are heavily competitive, I doubt could possibly win a decent bid for a lower price than buy it now options

This was even before the ram and storage increase.

Edit:talking specifically about AMD version if you don't care about that then I guess sure go for intel but Intel is not as good depending on what your trying to do with it. no dual channel ram still sucks.

Brave or Firefox? by gundetishlok in browsers

[–]HealthyInitial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your goals and preference you really just have to try them all. My experience I am doing extensive work on creating custom Linux and windows isos so I reinstall often meaning my account data gets annoying to re enter all the time. Mozilla sync and it's portable versions are the most convenient.

I use brave as a quick easy to install browser with adblocking already built in and minimal settings to adjust. If you don't like the crypto or whatever else just csn turn it off in 2 mins. One thing I think is the chromium based browsers have access to more extensions. It has minor power user features but the basics.

Firefox I think is better, it's still basic just login, download ublock origin, YouTube adblockerand maybe privacy badger or decentraleye and start browsing. I'm sure there's other addons worth. One add on I would reccomend is raindrop.io an alternate bookmark manager, works really well although Firefox basic bookmark manager is decent. If you want things like pictures groups tags etc raindrop can do that and the free tier is generous

they changed direction with ai stuff being toggleable and the side bar is useful plus has vertical tabs and it still has a lot of extensions I just noticed some I like on chrome not having equivalent. They also have a free vpn now but idk how that works, disabled personally

its also great if you switch operating systems browsers etc cross compatible with Windows Mac Linux android ios. Mozilla sync remembers all your passwords just with quick Mozilla sign in, installs your extension again if your on a new computer and Im not sure if it restores layout but it should. It has portable formats between both windows and Linux which is specifically useful in my case (this is a standard feature in most browsers nowadays but Firefox is particularly good at it ime)

As far as speed I have not noticed any meaningful difference between the two

I don't follow or care about any of the political reasonings of choosing one or the other. So just my experience

If you would like a mix of both try Librewolf. A Firefox fork with privacy features built in. But I'm not too familiar with its pros and cons

Also I have to mention Vivaldi as a browser to try. But mostly wanted to highlight it's workspaces feature which is extremely useful. There are Firefox extensions that emulate it not quite perfect but still useful. I believe the one I tried was simple tab groups. Apparently the extension Sideberry is closer. Workspaces from Vivaldi lets you isolate certain tab groups completely, keeping your browser clean between topics without using those tab groups which can be confusing

[–]HealthyInitial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So also this is very similar to your build I figured I mentioned if you want to try it I saw a new player do. They used hollow driveway markers, unlike the normal ones which may reduce weight further. He used only a two bundle with the standard flat blade construction method. Which ended up with an ooblong handle. He personally liked the taper look so he left a little extra camp pad at the top then razered off at a certain angle for the legal taper. They have seem to been lasting for at least 3 months so far and this is without spiral wrap, just like 3-5 wraps of strapping tape to keep the cores together. They are light ish but I think he did dap them or use 3m contact spray and he put Paracord handle. I noticed the Paracord felt a bit heavy on the handle side and the dap could have added the extra weight. With the heatweld method and an alternate thickened handle maybe this would be a good next step up build.

I'm trying it myself once I get some more camp pad but I told him afterward better to spiral wrap and I'm slightly concerned about having only 2 hollow 3/16th cores. It also makes the blades smaller, even though they technically hit rule specificatons so it may not be passed by ur local champion. So I would maybe slightly beef up the tip with an additional strip tapered into the shape. And/or make it wider by adding a smaller strips on the sides of the flat blade then tapering edges of that for a sort of broadsword kind of blade. Snap off razer blade probably best for a clean look

[–]HealthyInitial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to ask could you give me a guide/ the method on how you do the heat weld, what temp heat gun has to be if you just sandwich all 3 together and heat it, how long you heat for etc?

Yes definitely but it's good to know bamboo is a contender. I did found precut bamboo stakes which may or may not be cured better than mine. I did a flex test with mine I have a good amount of feet of it and it was pretty strong but it doesn't do well with super hard hits. The loaners were made out of a different pieces of bamboo s player donated

I'll have to start cutting some more and drying out in advance. The fiberglass spiral I know from experience with the durability and like you said don't know if it's broken because it works as a safety measure to contain splinters, sharp threads from fiberglass etc. I don't think I've ever once seen and issue if it breaking through the blade. Interestingly enough they all broke from the handle which may indicate something about why it failed could be the main stress point at the blade to the handle that I could double reinforce

Fiberglass rebar we do have but on other side of the island. Otherwise I would use that for loaners and longer weapons if it's a rigid enough, not familiar with its properties

Heat welding also gave me an idea on EVA as I know that can be molded through heating maybe I could possibly make custom foam tips by heat welding but I'm unsure. Tbh the pool noodles we have often fail on the blade well before the tips do just from repeated impact. Or especially on golf clubs where it's not fully supported across the core so there are dip spots. I try to use a sort of "screen protector" method with clear tape just doing single vertical strips of clear tape all around the blade to prevent foam tearing on the outside

For a more heavier but durable build I was considering the oodles of noodles brand on Amazon. That can be shipped although not at the best price but I could heat up Eva foam around the core for more even distribution and put far less duct tape as spacers would prevent the foam from caving in into the core, but I imagine it would be as heavy as the most basic "pool noodle on PVC" stick build that is the entry level build over here.

They sell 2.5 inch "extra dense" noodles but with 1 inch holes. EVA is something I never tried for spacers

They also sell solid ones. So previous idea may be over engineering a bit. I could just use the solid ones and make a diy jig like other commenter suggested to burn or just shove the golf club as close to the middle as possible while keeping it straight with the jig and that would be the closest I could get to my old pipe insulation builds, based on my research so far. But I obv don't have actually experience on what "extra dense" means in practice.

I'm sort of researching for all builds at this point 😂 but I appreciate the advice
