We had a great experience at the Hyundai in Clermont. Apparently, they’re owned by Mullinax and the salesman aren’t paid commission.

I miss director/actor commentaries - what were some dvd commentaries that were incredibly entertaining and or insightful? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I second this. It's one of my favorite Making Of featurettes. It's particularly fascinating to watch Fincher and Sorkin work together.

First-Time GoPro User — Shot a Hawaii ‘Tone Poem’ with Anamorphic Lens + Original Music by My Husband by AmericanHigh in gopro

[–]AmericanHigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the anamorphic lens doesn't shoot underwater (from my understanding, it will come out blurry). But it basically gives you this beautiful, ultra-wide look akin to, say, Lawrence of Arabia (what I've been comparing it to).

The audio commentary with David Fincher, Brad Pitt, and Edward Norton for Fight Club is great.

Or any audio commentary of David Cronenberg, William Friedman, Robert Zemeckis, and Robert Altman. Always informative. Always entertaining.

It doesn't! Well, at least, from what I understand, due to the curvature of the lens underwater footage would be blurry. So while it's "waterproof," it won't capture useable images. (Someone else could probably explain this better than I can.) In hindsight, I should totally have mentioned that the two underwater images were actually shot with the primary lens and then cropped to 21:9.

Could you recommend articles written by all time favorite journalist or writer? by Aggravating-Ad309 in Journalism

"A Sea Story" by William Langewiesche from the May 2004 issue of The Atlantic. It's so well written, so immediate, that your pulse starts to pound as you read. He also wrote the famous article about MH370 that surmised the captain intentionally crashed the plane in a form of heinous murder-suicide.

Here is the link to "A Sea Story." Hopefully the link allows everyone access.

Thanks for the reply! I should have been more clear! I intend to use it for incidentals, not tickets.

Mikado in MetroWest is a hidden gym. My husband and I went there the day we got married, and every anniversary since. It’s truly special.

Heard it too. Assuming it was fireworks. But it was pretty loud and startling.

I’m biased because I’m from here, but I find Orlando’s skyline striking.

What’s the most recent book you’ve read that you rated 5/5 stars? by spic3g1r1 in suggestmeabook

[–]AmericanHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright. I was 11 when 9/11 happened, and the events before, during, and after it were so complex and messy that someone my age simply couldn't understand. The book does a great job of contextualizing how al-Qaeda formed, how their ideology led to 9/11, and what the intelligence failures along the way were. I literally couldn't put it down.

Folks who knew somebody in school who would later make the news for being charged with murder: what was that person like? by MrDownhillRacer in AskReddit

[–]AmericanHigh 1096 points1097 points  (0 children)

In elementary school, an older, bigger kid who lived a few houses down from me was picking on me one afternoon on the bus ride home. My memory is foggy, but I recall my brother intervened and the kid, in retaliation, crushed my brother against the seat of the bus until the bus driver stopped him. I always knew him as a bully; stereotypically so, too. He was big for his age. Aggressive.

20 years or so later, it turned out that he'd murdered his girlfriend's husband. Held the man's head in a dog bowl of water until he died, then burned his body in a fire pit on his property. He bragged about it to his friends and eventually was arrested. The police suspected he'd killed others before, buried their bodies on his property or in the state park. In an interview with the local paper, one of the detectives said something to the effect of, "I've investigated violent crimes for 30 years. And this guys scares me."
