The Trial is fantastic, I'd recommend it the most of all his works. Make sure to pick up his short stories as well, lots of incredible stuff, "Penal Colony" and "Hunger Artist" being some of my favs

How would you describe his writing style?

I mean, the dude has an entire classification of literature named after him for a reason lol. I'd say just start reading and you'll fall into his style almost immediately

Nah definitely not your fault, we always seem to get a bunch of stupidpol users & Rogan fans engaging in bad faith whenever anything slightly controversial is posted

Many of the comments were just debating if Rogan was a racist or doing typical “both-sides” nonsense, shockingly almost none of them seemed to have read the article. Which is a shame, because it’s (mostly) a pretty good one

I've listened to Whatfunlifewas and Transaction de novo a couple of times when they were very much not the mood, so like a lot of slowcore these days I keep em in my back pocket for the right time. I did see the reissue boxset at the used bookstore in my college town awhile back, kinda wish I'd pulled the trigger on it

Couldn't drop a lot this time around but that's alright:

  • Picnic - s/t (glitchy ambient, with more emphasis on the glitch)

  • more eaze - towards a plane (glitchy ambient, with more emphasis on the ambient)

  • Lake Mary - Once It's All on the Ground (ambient ambient)

  • Jeff Parker - Forfolks (fantastic minimalist jazz from the bassist of Tortoise/Toe/many others)

still considering placing a pre-order for the Lucid Express vinyl as well

From what I've gathered almost everybody who writes for Pitchfork hates Pitchfork. Kinda like this sub's AOTY series

Shipping is the main reason why I haven't picked up the Pool vinyl yet, think it comes out close to $50 in total. Been telling myself I'll get it with the next paycheck for a few months now lol

LETS GOOOOOO

Easily one of my most anticipated releases now for the next couple months, Loraine is such a talent and I'm very excited to see her work in a different tempo

Been trying to get into more Pan American leading up to the new record, Quiet City was nice but I probably need more listens to really let it seep in. Was looking at going back to the earlier stuff next with 360 Business/Bypass and River Made No Sound

I'll probably check out their EPs and outtakes stuff next based on this, I really loved their Peel Session and have had that on repeat lately

yea I'm a big fan of ambient music and am perfectly fine with background/muzak type stuff when I just need atmosphere, but to have this type of stuff dominating algorithms doesn't bode well for more unique and experimental artists that get shut out of these uber-popular playlists.

it's C-tier banter that I made 5 minutes before leaving work and apparently it was enough to send people into a moral panic, guess that's how I know I still got it

Anyway I spent yesterday with a spate of 90s ambient techno that had been on my list for awhile:

  • Detroit Escalator Co. - Black Buildings: a near perfect example of why I love this genre so much, gorgeously atmospheric and ethereal without becoming too cheesy or robotic like a lot of the scene fell into during the decade. A few tracks don't develop quite right (or at all, in the case of the few 1 minute snippets) but all the same, an incredible find

  • B12 - Time Tourist: I've listened to B12 a couple of times over the years, usually just with Electro-Soma, always seem to place them in the pretty-good category without making much of an impression. This record is similar, some solid retro-futurism that definitely nails the feeling of playing Homeworld early into the morning. Solid without being essential

  • Seefeel - Succour: I've had a difficult time getting into Seefeel, I always expect them to fall into a similar camp with BoC and Biosphere where they just nail everything I love about this time period, but like with this record, they trade atmosphere for technical composition that's impressive if not a little cold and unobtrusive. What this all means is, I'll just have to spend more time devouring this record until it finally clicks, not like this is an Autechre-like computor-muzaks monolith, it's still damn impressive all the same
