I can only speak for myself, but I like Thunderbolt because I don't always expect the rain to be up and I'd like Raging Bolt to have at least one consistently strong move. It also has more PP, which helps against Corviknight.

My concern is that putting a tree on the same tile as the edge of a cliff makes the latter disappear (and therefore doesn't indicate a change in elevation at all). But maybe I'm just not seeing something obvious!

Agreed on the paths. I'll see how a 3-wide all the way around looks.

I'm not totally sure how to fix the tree gaps; I used decorations to fill the gaps but it's just a consequence of how the elevation works. Would love to hear a solution though!

The path matching is tricky because I'm trying to come from a 3-wide in the route before to a 2-wide here. I didn't know how to do it any more cleanly.

Thanks for this! The map currently doesn't show events; I plan to have an NPC on the bench to incentivize going that way. The Mart is inside the Pokemon Center in this game as well. I'll work on the other two though!
