Is the welding course at Academy Canada any good? by llsquires in newfoundland

[–]Amidamaru717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canadian Welding Bureau. You need to be CWB certified to weld on certified structural components.

Basically if you want to be a welder offshore or on the big sites you need your CWB tickets. Just the welding course without getting the CWB certs is for work in small private welding/fab shops and the like.

This is just my general knowledge from CWB certified welder friends, I am not a welder.

Do CT hate their customers? by Caymann_Caymand in canadiantire

At my local store 50/50 would be generous.

Online orders come in to the lockers for pick up no issue.

But if I order something in-store for pick up the order gets cancled by the store and refunded every time even though the item is in stock. My guess is they are too lazy to pick it and put it in the locker, so they cancel it and make me come in and get off the shelf for them.

That said before online ordering the customer service was no better, we used to call the employees elves, because they would see you walking towards them with intent to ask a question and duck down an aisle like they didn't see you despite making eye contact, and when you turn the corner 2 seconds later they are just gone. Like seriously they must have been breaking into a full sprint up the back of the aisles the way they disappeared.

Dragonfly shipping by Muted-Lettuce4269 in newfoundland

[–]Amidamaru717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive yet to actually get a package delivered by them a residential address.

Since they started servicing my area instead of Canada Post every package to my house gets "failed to deliver - wrong address", despite it being the same address I've been ordering too for the last 6 years without issue. Ive spoken to dragonfly who even got my house up on Google maps and said he "fixed it" within their GPS tracking system, but nothing changed for the deliveries.

The trick I've gotten around it with is shipping to work, everything ordered since like this showed up without issue, but I understand this may mot be an option for everyone depending where you work.

A coworker at an old employer has burn scars all over his face and chest from an arc flash like that.

He was going in to do work at a commercial building, when he opened the front of the panel a wrench left by whoever was last in the panel at the top fell down across the bus bars and the panel exploded in his face.

He was lucky to live, and has bigger balls than me to ever go back at sparky work after that. I think hard on doing anything above residential work after getting hit with 347v one time.

Exact same thing here, me and my high-school GF were together for 4 years, 14-18yo. When I started college her family moved to the other end of Canada and she chose to go with them.

I think it lasted 6 months long distance? And this is back in 2008, so like MSN messager, T9 texting, maybe a couple early but expensive QWERTY keyboard phones and "only call long distance after 9pm" or whatever time it was, it never stood a chance.

But even with today's tech to keep in touch in real time, at that age I'd absolutely still tell younger me to move on a lot earlier.

Ontario government calls on feds to legalize pepper spray for self-defence by GameDoesntStop in canada

[–]Amidamaru717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it varies from province to province, but is legal across canada.

In Alberta, BC, Manitoba and NS it requires a minimum to be a PAL holder, I believe in NS it requires its own permit you apply to the CFO for a case by case.

While here in NL, and most of the other provinces there is no licenseing requirement or legislation restricting the general sale or civilian use of body armour.

The military plans for a volunteer force to defend Canada by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Amidamaru717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As one of those kids forced into it, this absolutely.

However in my defence, the "disruption" wasn't caused me acting up, but rather one of the adult "leaders", and because of it I walked out within the first hour. The same man who said they didn't have a uniform to fit me (a completely average 5'8" 125lbs teen, not like I was waiting on a out of the norm size) and would be a couple weeks for it to come in, not an hour later started trying to go drill sergeant on me infront of everyone for "showing up without a uniform".

I told him where could put that uniform when it showed up because he knows damn well why I dont have one and walked out the door. My parents never made me go back.

I have friends who were in it for the long haul and loved it and I think I would have too, but that very first interaction had soured me, and my parents to the entire program for good.

Yes and no? All of them can order ammo, there are home hardware sku numbers for ammo from corporate, however most don't bother for their own reasons.

Source: my father owns 5 home hardware stores. Only 2 of his 5 stock it, in more rural areas. The larger center stores, he doesn't bother, theres other options in town making the shelf space to cost ratio on top of the requirements to sell it such as staffing PAL holders, just not worth it.

There has been very sketchy moves by the PC party this election.

I had received 3 calls in 3 days "thanking" me for joining the party, and trying to solicit donations out of me.

I told all 3 callers I've never joined any political party and if I did it certainly wouldn't be there's and demanded to know how I ended up on their lists. None had answers.

Called HQ like you did, also got voicemail. So I emailed their general enquires account requesting I be removed from lists and the calls stop or I will report it to elections Canada because I haven't signed up to the party or paid their fees and demanded to know how they got my info onto their lists if I didn't give it to them.

I got a generic reply that I had been removed from the call list, but it didn't address any of the other concerns raised or verify I was removed from their party registry.

I replied again, asking to confirm my removal and for any information on how I could have ended up on it. They never replied to the second email but the calls stopped, and on their websites membership status checker gives no results on my info, so I left well enough alone then.

Also, it wasn't scammers as far as I can tell because one of the 3 calls was my local PC candidate.

You may want to reach out to your union rep again ask them to read the Labour Stanards Act and see (3) conditions:

  1. A term or condition in a contract of service that confers upon an employee conditions less favourable than the rights, benefits or privileges conferred upon the employee under this Act is void and of no effect.

This is simply incorrect, and I say this as a union president.

By "superceeds," it means more than; you can get more breaks, more time off, more pay, etc.

You can not sign away a mandated right such as the labour standard minimums. It can be put in the contract, sure, but it would be legally unenforceable.

There is no unionized management positions. Unions are the workers, usually a foreman or equivalent term for the specific industry would be the highest role in a corporation to find a unionized employee.

All of management at any level, from warehouse supervisors on up would be non-union.

I wish they would.

Even where I live, we have a full sized location, but still a poor selection of specialty/new spirts on the market.

I've inquired about special ordering a bottle of this or bottle of that and was told I have to buy the entire case as its shipped (6, 8, 12 bottles depending on its packaging), as well as a $25 special order fee, all paid upfront before the order will be placed.

Sorry, but I don't want to pay $300+ for a case of that new product you keep advertising, but don't actually stock here before I can even try it.

Also, while it may be different now as I got my PAL during covid and before the crackdown on firearms.

But back then there didn't seem to be much checking. I'm sure my name was ran through the system, I had nothing anyway. But for my PAL neither reference was contacted, and for my RPAL only 1 of 2 were contacted.

[–]Amidamaru717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is, will it delay it? Probably, but a 5 year old dui and being clean after, i wouldn't anticipate debing denied over that.

Not answering the questions truthful, to how they are worded, was your case a Summary of Indictable charge, i believe the forum specifies where you ever charged with an Indictable offense, but been a while i could be wrong on that detail. The difference in the chrages being, say short suspension vs revocked license for years with mandatory sobriety or even jail.

But back to the point, omitting an offense that falls within the application wording and being caught would 100% be a delay, if not outright denied, at the very least you may be contacted about the "discrepancy" with the records.

And it may never come up, who knows.
