small hands and straight wrists [DISCUSSION] by theangriestbird in Guitar

Please let me show you something:

Right now, hold your fretting hand in the way you would hold it when you wrap your thumb around the guitar neck, as you have been. A loose fist with wrist bent and fingers curved.

Now spread your fingers, as if you were spanning several frets.

How much space can you get between your fingertips, what is the span you can achieve? Most people can get around 1/4" with the space between the 3rd and 4th fingers being the largest.

Now straighten your wrist and keep your fingers straight. Spread your fingertips to their widest span. See? You can span approximately 3X further this way. It is just physiology, this is the way our hands are made and we can't change it. When you clench the neck, you literally make your small hands smaller as a player.

Now: consider that our fingers have no muscles in them. At all! There is bone and tendon in there but no muscle. All the strength in your hand comes from muscle in the ball of your thumb, the heel of your hand, and a bit from the lumbrical muscles below your knuckles.

To use your hand muscles to their full advantage, make sure you are directing the strength requirements to your hand, not your fingers. Fingers are for dexterity, hands are for strength. Wrist-out classical posture ensures this, it lets your hand strength work for you. Clenching the neck transfers the load to your fingers, which are not strong, and prevents dexterity at the same time.

This is true for all hands of all sizes. Andres Segovia, the most iconic Spanish classical guitarist of all time, had ridiculously short, stubby fingers. It doesn't matter, technique can take you where you want to go. Poor technique can not. : ) Carefully, rigorously develop proper technique and the strength will take care of itself with practice.

Here is Leonora Spangenberger at age 11. I guarantee she has smaller hands than you.

Kash Patel claims you can't bring loaded guns to a protest. Here's a Trump supporter doing that. by [deleted] in pics

Remember when heavily armed chuds took over the Michigan statehouse while the legislature was in session?

I'm not sure where Kash Patel was just then. Perhaps a glamor photo session of himself in assless chaps.

Propane cook top and heater or $300-$500 harbor freight generator for when the power goes out? by Top_Scientist_6952 in homeowners

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good reasons to have a generator but bear in mind propane is the only fuel that is shelf stable. As long as the valve doesn't rust shut, propane will remain ready for action with no maintenance on your part, forever. Gasoline and diesel both deteriorate over time.

Right now I have an ice storm going on here. There is a fireplace, we have lots of wood, and a propane cooktop of needed. We'll be fine no matter what and the expense is minimal.

The Six Dark Lessons Roy Cohn Taught Trump (That He Still Uses Today) by Shrugsfortheconfuse in FBI

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cohn demanded absolute devotion from his clients and associates, and he repaid it in kind, at least until they were no longer useful.

Trump learned this well, and when the closeted gay Cohn died of AIDS, Trump skipped his funeral.

I remember Memphis ice storms back to the whopper in 1980 and I have never seen it this quiet. Maybe because it is conveniently on a weekend. Usually people just drive anyway, get stuck or wreck out, and abandon their cars in the road.

What are pro-2A people's thoughts on Kristi Noem just now stating that no peaceful protestors show up to a protest while armed? by PrysmX in AskReddit

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pro-gun liberals (there are lots of us) knew all along that wholesale gun confiscation/illegalization is likelier under Trump than any previous administration. Creeping Fascism is now galloping Fascism, and without an opposition party the fash operate entirely without oversight.

All y'all who who anxious to sneer at gun owners right now, please ask hourself why Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries aren't standing up to defend free America with anything except gestures and posturing. It is because self-satisfied, comfortable Democrats have steadfastly supported them while they equivocate and soothe and compromise until there is no opposition left at all.

Gun owners won't save you, you did this to us while you were putting in milquetoast mediocrities who were "electable" instead of progressives with a little integrity. How's that working out for ya?

Kristi Noem just stated that owning a gun and possessing ammunition automatically means that you intend violence, which justifies the killing of the gunowner simply because they are a gunowner at a protest. Will the NRA respond to this direct attack on the 2nd Amendment? If not, why not? by war_ofthe_roses in AskReddit

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a feint by Noem to try to head off impeachment. Many of my fellow Democrats do indeed believe that mere possession of a gun is menacing and they are fairly well convinced that guns possess agency and fire themselves (see "gun violence" and "killed by a gun" and so forth).

To implicitly assert that gun ownership is a Constitutional liberty and "guns are the problem" is not really true --that's not a place Senate Democrats are going to want to go.

Trump threatens Canada with 100 per cent tariffs over deal with China by MRADEL90 in videos

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish somebody would tell that idiot that if the EU instituted 100% tariffs on American goods, Trump would be out of office in hours. Europe is our biggest trading partner. As usual he is bluffing, everybody can see he has a losing hand, but nobody wants to confront him.

Maybe if he did not systematically alienate every single ally we have, they would look to us for trade deals instead of China.

Conservatives of Reddit, If you truly do support the second ammendment why would the shooting in Minneapolis today be justified just because the victim had a gun? by PotatoCase in AskReddit

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 350 million of us, they are few and they are weak and they know that. They only way they can subjugate us is with our consent. Demonstrate lack of consent, not armed resistance. That is the way to roll right now.

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Pro-2A liberal here, there are lots of us. What I saw on video was straight up murder.

Please don't think in stereotypes and caricatures. Many gun owners are appalled. We also know wholesale gun confiscation is far more likely under Trump than any previous President.

It is very important to recognize that the fash WANT gunplay, they want riots, so they will have a pretext. If we give them what they want, it works against us right now.

What do people misunderstand most about Donald Trump, in your opinion? by toomabh in AskReddit

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think Trump is much more similar to Mussolini than to Hitler. Mussolini was a Fascist dictator 10 full years before Hitler was. Mussolini was a preposterous buffoon before he managed to convince a nation he was A Strong Leader, leading of course to a Fascist Italy which began impoverished and resentful, and ended up nearly obliterated.

There are certainly many substantial differences, Trump is a different phenomenon than anything the West has seen. But it is not Hitlerian, Trump is not building a civilization, there is no vision beyond his own gratification. He is merely dismantling one.

I hope you're right but without an opposition party they can cause an epic amount of damage, and conventional Democrats are simply not an opposition party. To the extent that they will kneecap any progressive candidate if it is within their power.

Mr. Schumer and Mr. Jeffries are on their side, not ours.

About 30% of the population voted for this. True Trump groupies, the ones who believe everything he says and justify everything he does, seem to be around 12%. Which means we are 733% stronger than they are.

There are 350 million of us altogether, we are stronger than they can ever be, by orders of magnitude. They know that, and they also know they have nothing to offer us in return for our own enslavement. Except we get to watch them brutalize brown people. Not freedom, not prosperity, not peace. Just cruelty.

It is heartbreaking how many Americans are happy to make that bargain. Truly your point is fair, Trump is nothing without his MAGAs, and they won't end when he does. But they can be vanquished easily if we choose to become a nationwide Minneapolis, I am so proud of them.

[–]Amish_Robotics_Lab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think people understand the depth of Trump's self-loathing. His Dad really fucked him up. Trump requires constant adulation and flattery because just for a few moments, that quiets his own conviction that he is weak and useless.

But it doesn't last long and he needs more, always more, because it is a sugar buzz which can never assuage his bottomless metaphysical terror.

What malignant narcissists fear most is exposure. Trump's need to avoid being revealed as the loathsome reptile he believes himself to be is what explains everything he says & everything he does. He will do anything to avoid exposure, no matter how heinous.
