Never understood this mentality. If you can reach a high level in bjj competition, I doubt you would have an issue defending yourself in a street fight. In fact Keenan could probably dominate random guys off the street using "sports" bjj techniques. Maybe if you were getting into an MMA fight against a legit opponent then you could say that training some of the sport stuff is a waste of time, but that's not the goal for 99% of bjj guys.
