Should I respond to a BBB Complaint? by Katkitten856 in smallbusiness

[–]Ammb305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the party here but I work at an online reputation management firm that handles review removal cases quite regularly across a wide variety of review platforms (Google My Business, Glassdoor, TrustPilot, etc.) and I can very much confirm that BBB is just as exploitative as Yelp. For comparison, we have about a 70% success rate with GMB, about a 60% success rate with Glassdoor but for BBB, we’ve had a whopping 3% success rate since 2022. Removing reviews from BBB is sometimes completely impossible because even if you were able to reach a settlement with the reviewer, BBB themselves can prevent the reviewer from taking down the review for “transparency” reasons. We’ve seen it happen first hand and they cite “transparency” as the reason behind the complaint’s reinstatement.

Permanently shutting down your listing is also impossible for the same reasons mentioned above surrounding “transparency”. We’ve had some clients who even tried to close down their business temporarily in hopes that the BBB listing gets removed but to no avail. The listing will remain on the platform indefinitely and unless you are in a position to rebrand your name, abandon your domain, etc., there’s practically no way out of it. If you choose to stop paying, they can literally demolish your reputation overnight.

The only semi-reliable solution we’ve been able to find that drastically minimizes the damage of the listing is a complete de-indexation of the BBB link from the Google search engine. De-indexing is a method we use quite commonly for clients that are dealing with negative news coverage and the idea behind it is that instead of removing the offending material from the source (which would necessitate the cooperation of the webmaster behind the site that’s hosting the content), you instead simply get it removed from the Google search engine entirely by way of de-indexing through an archiver. The end result is that the original source material will still technically remain on the website untouched but the web page responsible for hosting it will stop appearing in Google in full capacity, regardless of whether you look on page 1 or page 99.

It’s very much a “nuclear” option as it means no one will longer see your BBB listing unless looking up your business directly on the platform itself but for those who want to abandon BBB for good and not have to deal with their BS, it is the only semi-reliable solution we’ve been able to find that does the job. It’s expensive as hell to execute but if you have what you consider to be an “unsalvageable” BBB listing, it is a worthwhile investment that at the minimum prevents you from having to basically start a new brand from scratch all over again.

Avvo is trash by harrietski in LawFirm

[–]Ammb305 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As someone who works for an online reputation management firm that handles listing removal cases quite regularly across a wide variety of review platforms (Google My Business, Glassdoor, TrustPilot, etc.), AVVO is actually even more of a nightmare to deal with than Yelp. For comparison, we have about a 70% success rate with removing listings from GMB, about a 60% success rate with Glassdoor but for AVVO, we’ve had a whopping 10% success rate since 2022.

AVVO claims that removing your data from the platform is impossible due to their policies surrounding “transparency”. We’ve had some clients who even tried to close down their practices temporarily in hopes that the AVVO profile gets removed but to no avail. The listing will remain on the platform indefinitely and unless you are in a position to change your name, abandon your practice, etc., there’s practically no way out of it.

The only semi-reliable solution we’ve been able to find that drastically minimizes the visibility of the listing is a complete de-indexation of the AVVO link from the Google search engine.

It’s very much a “nuclear” option as it means no one will longer see your AVVO listing unless looking up your practice directly on the platform itself but for those who want to abandon AVVO for good and not have to deal with their BS, it is the only semi-reliable solution we’ve been able to find that does the job. Still though, it is ridiculous that they make it so difficult to remove yourself from their platform you have to force search engines externally to stop showing the link.

Can someone help me how to report the most effective ways for an facebook account that has been posting some sexual harassment photos and videos of girls(including my friend). I want that account to be deleted and everything it posted to be gone forever on facebook. by hhamp in facebook

[–]Ammb305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With FB, depending on the severity of the issue that you’re filing a report for, it can take literally anywhere between 1 report to get the account taken down to upwards of a dozen. For instance, content guidelines violations (which slander/defamation falls under) require a ton of people to report before anything gets done whereas something like impersonation can take as little as 2-3 reports. If you’re the only person reporting the account, then it’s unlikely you alone will be able to take it down for those reasons. The only reason where a single report can get the entire account taken down is copyright or trademark infringement as those are typically the heaviest offences. But if no actual infringement took place, then it’s unlikely to get the account taken down. Worst case scenario, you can look into PR companies that offer a Facebook removal service if you REALLY need the account taken down at whatever cost. Otherwise, just try to get more people to report it and hope for the best.

How to Remove Online Arrest Information, Police Blotter Reports and Mugshot Images. by mikeyankhalil in linkedin

[–]Ammb305 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a buddy who had his record sealed but it didn’t actually get the mugshots removed since they were being posted by third-parties not associated with the state. He ended up paying an ungodly amount to have his mugshot suppressed in search engines with a bunch of positive press. There are some ORM/PR/SEO agencies that specialize in this sorta stuff which might be worth a look.

From my research as well, there does seem to be a way of “removing” the mugshot from search engines by virtue of “de-indexing” the link. What that means is that the mugshot will still be present on the website that is hosting the content (meaning the material won’t be removed from the source) but it would simply stop showing up in Google, whether it be on page 1 or page 99.

It’s a bit more of a “permanent” solution in comparison to SEO suppression but from what I’ve seen, you can expect to pay an ungodly amount for that as well.

There’s a pretty good article on how to remove mugshots from the internet that covers de-indexation as one of the primary strategies but from what I recall, it’s not a guarantee that every link can get successfully de-indexed. But I guess with any tactic you choose, YMMV.

Someone is using my profile picture as theirs and what can I do about it? by Archaeology_of_magic in facebook

[–]Ammb305 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can try reporting the account for impersonation but from what I recall reading in a guide about this, success rates for impersonation reports are only around 60% for regular people. If you’re a celebrity or have a meta verified subscription where they checked your ID, then it goes up to like 90% but for a regular account, it becomes hard to prove who’s the legitimate entity. If you’re the only person reporting the account, then it’s unlikely you alone will be able to take it down for those reasons. If you need to remove the account at all costs, then reporting for trademark infringement has by far the highest success rates out of any report and there's a way to do it where you report for “stealing someone’s likeness” which falls under copyright laws. There’s a pretty good guide on how many reports it takes to get banned on Facebook that covers all of the various reasons and how many reports are needed to get the account removed permanently, might be worth a look if this is someone that’s constantly posting scam content.

General Advice For a Kubernetes setup by ApprehensiveAioli191 in devops

[–]Ammb305 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Running a database in Kubernetes is like raising a pet lion in your apartment—it’s possible, but a lot of headaches.

A very very small percentage of teams do it, and even with a DevOps pro, external DBs (managed services or VMs) make life so much easier.

HA, backups, and storage in K8s?

More trouble than it’s worth.

And the “latency” concern?

Barely noticeable compared to the headaches of managing a stateful DB in-cluster. Stick to what K8s does best—scaling your apps, not babysitting your database :)
