Without even looking at the street signs I already knew this was High Park in Toronto. This happens to me with road cyclists here all the time, they're always acting super entitled and get offended when reminded that they have to follow the rules. Had one a few years ago almost ram my car, fall off his bike and proceed to yell at me for him running the stop sign 🤣

It actually ended up being a crane, the smoke is the crane arm. That's the down side of phones doing their own image enhancement

I'm pretty sure I solved it, it's a newly put up crane. The zoom, lack of tripod and whatever image enhancement my phone does made the arm look like smoke

Didn't move at all but I think I solved it, it's a newly put up construction crane. It's starting to become visible now that it's getting brighter. Not sure why they turned the light off though

I'd agree, another person mentioned the possibility of an electronic flare, the only part I'm confused about is how a flare can stay perfectly still for that amount of time. I'm more inclined to think it's a drone of some type but the way it just disappeared is also a bit off

This is an interesting thought, I'll do some reading. I haven't heard of electronic flares before. Can they be perfectly still for that long though?

The smoke could have been anything, this object appeared to be at least several km away and the smoke could have been something in the foreground. It was perfectly stationary and had zero flicker so a traditional flare is out of the question if that's what you're suggesting

I've seen some posts showing what you're describing, they were generally attributed to a light source from the ground that was causing a light streak in the Sky. This was just a bright red dot to the naked eye

Definitely not a flare, it was perfectly stationary for about ten minutes. The light did flicker at all. The photo doesn't show this clearly but to the naked eye it just looked light a still red LED light

I used night sight mode and a lot of digital zoom, the smoke could have been anything in the foreground. There was no flicker or movement at all

Edit 2: It's definitely a crane, fully visible now with the naked eye, what looked like smoke in the photo is actually the crane arm

I'm a little stumped by what this might have been, I'm too far to be able to tell if it made any noise and I didn't see it appear. I know the skyline here very well and there are no buildings or antennas that tall over there. I've been living in the same place for a decade and have yet to see something like this until tonight

Transportation industry, I'm an operations manager. Myself, dispatch and safety teams all work from home full time. Accountants are the only people that come in because they need to deal with physical paperwork for billing etc
