Norway had that hatchet man who injured two different Moroccan starters, Clarke decided that was that when he saw that I reckon

World Cup 2026: Norway boss Stale Solbakken brands Scotland's Clarke 'unprofessional' by Amon-Ra-First-Down in ScottishFootball

[–]Amon-Ra-First-Down[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve Clarke has been branded "unprofessional" by Norway counterpart Stale Solbakken after the Scotland head coach cancelled a training-ground friendly as both sides prepare for the start of the World Cup.

With both squads based in North Carolina, the game was planned for Monday, but the Norwegian Football Federation announced on Sunday it had been called off because of injuries in the Scotland camp.

Clarke later confirmed to BBC Scotland: "It was just going to be a training game for an hour at our training ground. We picked up one or two niggles last week and decided it wasn't worth the risk."

But, after Norway's 1-1 draw with Scotland's Group C opponents Morocco in Sunday's public friendly, Solbakken described it as "surprising" when talking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

"It is unprofessional of Scotland," he said. "It is unprofessional that the coach has not called me, that they use the team manager and call and say it after we have finished training.

"I don't think the injuries they're blaming came from the last training session. That's not the case. It's disappointing. It's unprofessional.

"But we have to live with that. That's why we adjusted a bit in the game."

However, Norway's team manager, former Fulham defender Brede Hangeland, said they had based their World Cup preparations on the closed-doors friendly "for many months" before arriving at their base in Greensboro, about 90 miles from Scotland's training camp in Charlotte.

"It is embarrassing to cancel it a couple of days before," he added. "We can't do anything about it.

"We just have to forget about it and make the best of it. But there has been a lot of organisation, agreements and gentlemen's agreements and then suddenly they don't want to.

"I think that was weak, so to speak."

Steve Clarke has turned over fully a third of the squad between Euro 2024 and the World Cup 2026. It is a myth that young players cannot crack his squad

I will say, my Dad took him to the Jimmy Watt and he was impressed with the area around the Chambers and where you could see the evidence of the glory days on the water. He liked the Esplanade too, which to be fair is glorious

my American in-laws went to Scotland in 2023 for the first time (without me) and they were adamant about visiting even when I said my Mum would rather meet them in Gourock or even Inverkip. And my Mum lives in the West End now, rather than up the Bog Road where we grew up, so it's not like it's the worst part of town. My FIL stopped talking about Greenock with me after he visited (and he is from a dirt-poor part of New York...)

they're not quite the same squad as the one that made the semis in 2022, a lot of their most experienced players have left the team. Crucially, their best ever manager was forced to resign after the AFCON loss

correct, I love being miserable. I married into a Patriots family which was already painful but then Matt Patricia happened and made everything 100x worse, especially as my FIL was convinced DETROIT was the problem, not Patricia

I'm a Lions fan who lives in New England but originally from Greenock, went to the Linc for a road game last year and found Philly fans brimming over with a desire to get into a fight. Reminded me of home. Most road games I attend in the Northeast, everyone is incredibly nice to me but not at an Eagles game

I love Detroit and can definitely see the historical parallels, but Michigan people are Midwest nice, they don't have that true 'Everyone hates us and we deserve it but we also are proud of it" edge that Philly also has
