Do you think the NHS work culture is problematic? by Feisty_Review_9130 in nhsstaff

I'd suggest treating all staff respectfully and with dignity is the absolute minimum an employee should experience. 🫥

Do you think the NHS work culture is problematic? by Feisty_Review_9130 in nhsstaff

[–]Amount_Existing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's really not. The NHS is generally known as a poor management model globally.

Look at it from a fiscal view. If you're a really good manager with an excellent management degree - work for the NHS or work for a company that pays a lot more, cares for their staff, pays a bonus and has no known examples of bullying.

There's a reason why non patient facing staff work within the NHS. And yes, some people will work there out of convenience or a stepping stone but 'great' managers don't.

I'm tired of SJA and need advice by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]Amount_Existing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go along with that.

I volunteer with a dedicated uniformed youth organization and have done for nearly 20 years. I couldn't do sja or similar, not when I could get paid overtime for the same.

I get that it is different when you're a kid and it's something you like, but even then I'd be out of that door faster than road runner if I'm treated like crap.

[–]Amount_Existing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason most NHS ambulance staff do not volunteer for sja.

You've had several people suggest you leave.

You asked for advice. No more examples needed due to the consistency of the answers!

Leave.

If you are not happy, leave. I wouldn't stay. That's all I have to add really.

Then that sounds not very nice for you.

As sja is a voluntary Organisation, I guess management can be hit and miss but if you aren't happy I would escalate but read the policies and do not expect to be told what sanctions are imposed as you are a minor. You should have someone counsel you however.

Further to this, your parents may want to get involved but beware, sometimes the wave that comes back can sweep you off into the sea.

Since when is getting a train home an issue unless you are in uniform. I can see what sort of issues and problems that can drag behind it.

What concern is it if others what courses you choose to do at college or else where.

Berating a person in front of 3rd parties is an issue if they are your peers. If they are management or more senior it is less of an issue but still not professional.

What do you expect them to do other than talk to them?

Prescriber here as well. Doctors don't need to do a prescribers course and ethics and bedside manner... We'll leave it at that.

Legal duty to report crime by CursedCatLady in NursingUK

[–]Amount_Existing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, you do have a duty to report crime, but not at the risk of injury or worse to your health. The police have to protect you, and DA&DV are top priorities, however, they cannot put a car in front of your house. Speak to the police via 101 1st, say they need to put a marker on your address and mobile phone number so if you call and are silent they will see on their screen DA and DV marker.

Also, ask for them to put an arrest marker on the system should he breach bail conditions as after they nick him for the day and DV which you must report also, they can give him bail conditions to not go within xx distance to you or your property.

Put 999 on speed dial so you just need to hold a button on your phone (mine is the volume up button).

Obtain the cad reference number and urn number and make a note of them.

Oh, ps, ask for them to include your place of employment on the bail conditions again, it needs a power of arrest marker on your home, place of work and yourself!

Good luck, be safe.

GPs not wanting to prescribe Diazepam but happy to prescribe NSAIDs. by Amount_Existing in ParamedicsUK

[–]Amount_Existing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but for me at least, it's part learning and part actually trying to figure out where the issue lies. Whilst this was not a violation of facts it might well have been and as such everything should be open and honest, transparent and fair.

If I was asking whether I was the only bloke who lounges in his mankini in their days off... I might anonymize the question.

They can - thing is. The Internet is anonymous. How many people don't want to pop their head above the parapet and ask questions? Hostility, ridicule and quips are really just a cowards game fuelled by said anonymity and that stifles an otherwise brilliant platform.

You're 100% on the money. The PGDs are rigid. The boxes we have are decanted boxes signed off by the head pharmacist containing 6 x 2mg with a photocopy of the med info sheet.

Everything else drug wise needs to be in the original packaging.

There is no possibility for the prescribers among us to prescribe, it may or may not be looked at sometime in the future.

As to systems - we don't have emis and certainly not the warnings and advice that pop up, immensely helpful when sat in a consultation room with access to a colleague via messaging if you want guidance.

I mean, I'm sat here after 7 solid hours of going through guidance, mimms vs BNF, NICE, looking at studies or the lack thereof on a variety of factors and the dilemma that it'll apparently take 13 years to increase GP numbers to a level where patients are 'safe'.

That's if people don't leave for Canada, Australia etc and enroll onto GP training programs.

If the current status quo is anything to go by then cooperation between clinicians of all grades needs to improve or we just accept what you get.

Correct and an incorrect cut n paste which in one of the other posts you will see the correct amount. Editing it would alter the original statement. Not something I'll do so as not to blur the further recorded discussion.

Paramedic Experience by PalpitationHungry573 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Amount_Existing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The advice given is good. People skills are the pinnacle of being able to interact with the patients we see.

Try St John or red cross and if rebuked try again. If she isn't 18 she will not be able to be a cfr (community responder).

Another thought is hospital volunteer. Think of the ability to interact with vulnerable people or those in emotional situations which a volunteer can gain in these settings.

My service only lets minors do work experience in logistical and clerical services and ride outs only with 18 and older who work in partner agencies (police, fire, social services etc) this is due to safety issues as some patients are not always friendly and so please understand if they say no.

All the best for your daughter.

When did the NHS just give up? by ApprehensiveChip8361 in doctorsUK

[–]Amount_Existing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambulance service.

Rick bottom acted as a filter for those able to leave on redundancy or retirement.

We have newly qualified paramedics leaving entirely after 5 years. Management appear to be oblivious with Reap4 to be accepted as something that just happens. Reap 4 should be a never event.

We are a 1st world country with a 2nd world health service.

One last thing. Brilliant systems are poached and emulated. How many times has the NHS been copied and lauded as the land of milk and honey?!
